Mary Bono Mack for Congress

Every two years a Democrat opponent surfaces to take on Mary Bono Mack in the 45th Congressional District. There is always a lot of big talk, high hopes, bragging of lots of money coming from the DCCC, and then…nothing materializes and Mary wins by 20 points. As well she should.

This year, her opponent isJulie Bornstein. Julieserved the 80th ADfrom 1992 to 1994. She was considered a rising star –the Democratic Assembly Caucus Chair and was voted the Freshman Legislator of the Year in 1994. With all of these accolades, she went on to get soundly trouced in her first bid for re-election by over 14,000 votes and gave the seat to the Republicans. Julie then served under Gray Davisbefore moving on to open an Affordable Housing Coalition.

The same communities she now wants to represent sued her for her tactics to force affordable housing on them. Julie’s coalition also had some questionable budgeting methods as seen here in this ad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fozuasop9GE

Voter Suppression in the 4th CD?

This morning’s Flash Report features a Sacramento Bee article about voter suppression in the 4th Congressional District. Apparently high-propensity, Republican poll voters are receiving calls telling them that they are now registered as absentee voters and it’s too late to mail in their ballot. Voters are also told that in order to vote on Election Day, they must wait in long lines to verify their eligibility. This is nothing short of ACORN-type voter manipulation.

In this heavily-Republican stronghold, there is only one possible culprit: Democrats intent on discouraging Republican voter turnout. When this matter was first brought to light yesterday, I talked with local GOP insiders and learned that the source of these calls is Democrat congressional candidate Charlie Brown’s campaign. In a sign of desperation, Brown’s campaignis stooping to unscrupulous, dishonest tactics like voter suppression.

Tom McClintock’s campaign is now calling on the Brown campaign to investigate whether their volunteers or staff have been making these voter suppression calls.

WHAT CALIFORNIA LAW ENFORCEMENT IS SAYING ABOUT PROP 6

Proposition 6 has strong support from California law enforcement, including every sheriff in the state, the California Police Chiefs’ Association, the California District Attorneys Association, the Chief Probation Officers of California and rank and file police officers.

Here’s a sample of what California law enforcement has said about Proposition 6 in the past year.

“Proposition 6 wisely invests in probation. Young people who make mistakes but are not hardened criminals desperately need adequate resources to ensure they stop negative behavior and succeed in living by the rules. A strong effort at the probation level is a wise investment.”

– Modesto Police Chief Roy Wasden Modesto Bee: “Modesto police chief endorses Proposition 6” Oct. 31, 2008

"They’ll say it’s a ‘lock em up, throw away the key’ ballot measure, and it’s not, frankly. In fact, the independent analysis says it will save money. It’ll reduce incarceration needs long-term. The analysis says if the prevention programs work and fewer people are arrested andRead More

Today’s Commentary: FR EXCLUSIVE: AN INTERVIEW WITH MEG WHITMAN

A few days ago, I had an opportunity to sit down for about a half hour and conduct an interview with former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a Californian, who is Co-Chairman of Senator McCain’s Presidential Campaign. Meg Whitman was in Orange County, and chatted over at the Irvine Hyatt Hotel, after she spoke to a New Majority event, and before she went on to a McCain for President function.

Whitman’s relatively recent arrival on the political scene has piqued the interest of many. Her success story at eBay, her net worth (rumored to be close to the billion dollar mark) and her high profile with the McCain campaign have made her quite the topic of discussion. Yet, still not much is known about Whitman’s politics.

Rather than substantially editing down the interview (which I typically do for interviews), I thought that it wouldRead More

Release Cunningham Early? Huh?

I read this morning on the San Diego Union Tribune website that some folks have written to President Bush, asking him to show leniency to federal inmate Randall "Duke" Cunningham as he leaves office. Leniency for the traitor Duke Cunningham? ARE YOU KIDDING?

When I think about him and what he did – selling America – get as angry now as I was when I first read about him penning his infamous "list" of government goods he would deliver for personal gain. But instead of getting all fired up again, I will reprint below a column from the FlashReport which ran last Thanksgiving weekend. Everything in it still applies.

President Bush, you should pardon Campeon and Ramos — but Duke Cunningham — well, he should serve every minute of his sentence, and then, when released, should be shunned.

Anyways, my commentary from last year…

Today’s Commentary: Amb. Bolton Honored at Claremont Institute Dinner

Last evening, I had the opportunity to attend the annual dinner gala honoring the memory of Sir Winston Churchill at which the Claremont Institute presents its coveted Henry Salvatori Prize in the American Founding. This year’s honoree was Ambassador John Bolton.

In accepting the prize, John Bolton opened his remarks by commenting on the stark contrast America is facing relative to choices for the Presidency. He talked about how the greatest threat facing our new President will be the growing proliferation of weapons of mass destruction around the world.

Bolton expressed a word of warning about a Presidential candidate who expresses his willingness to sit down, without preconditions, with leaders of hostile countries — but fails to tell the American people what it is he would say to those… Read More
