Gerawan Farming Taking CA Ag Labor Board Case to US Supreme Court

Surprising no one, on Nov. 27, the California Supreme Court upheld the dubious Mandatory Mediation and Conciliation law against Gerawan Farming. The California Supreme Court heard the Gerawan case last fall on whether the state’s attempting to force mandatory agricultural labor union contracts violates the constitutional safeguard of equal protection. Fresno-based peach grower Gerawan Farming is one of the largest agriculture employers in the state.

Anatomy of a fake news story on Chula Vista sales tax

Often it’s pointed out that the MSM has a liberal bias. It’s true, but many in the MSM simply can’t recognize their own bias. They HONESTLY believe that they are doing a good job as journalists, and take umbrage if anyone suggests otherwise.

Below is a typical — indeed quintessential — example of this bias — a bias that is liberal. But it’s also a biased article for additional reasons that most people don’t understand — I’ll discuss below. The reporter and their editors will be offended and yet puzzled why I would see bias in this pro-tax article. Let me help.

First, the article (see below). To summarize, it’s a 15 paragraph SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE story that could have been (and maybe WAS) essentially written by the city of Chula Vista’s PR flack. It’s probably a regurgitated press release, an ode touting the need for a higher sales tax. The reporter dutifully reported what the city wanted him to say — quoting the proponents extensively.

CA Gov. Jerry Brown Rejects Feds’ Initial National Guard Border Plans

After sitting silently on his hands for days, last week Gov. Jerry Brown finally agreed to allow the California National Guardto send400 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border, but would not allow guard members to stop illegal immigrants from entering the country illegally, in exchange for money from the Trump administration to beef up the state’s guard.Gov. Brown defiantly declared his troops “will not be used to enforce federal immigration laws.”

The troops will remain under state control, but the deployment costs will be covered by the Defense of Department.

Legislature Surprised as Non-Union Workers Pack Committee Hearings

Why Are Union-Free Workers Showing Up at California Legislative Hearings? Is This Even Allowed?

Unions routinely bring hundreds of people to legislative committee hearings at the California State Capitol. Often the attendees wear colorful T-shirts with union slogans to display their solidarity. This tactic creates a powerful visual impression of a massive collective workers’ movement.

In contrast, it’s very unusual for hundreds of union-free workers to show up at committee hearings wearing their company T-shirts and proudly identifying themselves as working in a specific profession for a specific company. In fact,… Read More

Why Senate Democrats Oppose Good Budget Transparency Bill

Why would Senate Democrats oppose a transparency bill, when every one of them campaigns on the importance of government transparency?

I testified in support of Rancho Cucamonga Sen. Mike Morrell’s Senate Bill 921Tuesday.

In addition to being a State Capitol political reporter, my other job is President of the Sacramento Taxpayers Association, which has been a presence in Sacramento, CA since 1961.

The bill will require each California state agency or department to post simple budgetary information on the home page of their website in a… Read More

California Media Re-Writing Violent Abusive History of Stephon Clark

As with most of the fraudulent legacy media, Sacramento Bee columnist Marcos Bretón has portrayed Stephon Clark to be some sort of martyred saint after his recent shooting death by Sacramento police: He’s a “loving father of two,” and “killed in his grandmother’s backyard.” The Los Angeles Times said of Clark: “Beloved, troubled young life cut short in police shooting.” Heavy.com said he waswas “a stay-at-home father of two young sons.”Another headline read: “Sacramento resident Stephon Clark, unarmed, was fatally shot by police in his backyard.” CNN said “the man shot and killed by Sacramento police was turning his life around, his brother says,” even though he’d just been released from prison again the previous month.

Saint John’s Program For Homeless/Addicted Women Threatened by County Bureaucrats

We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty. ~Mother Teresa

Today, American’s mental health institutions have become county jails. Especially in California, following the 2011 prison realignment which resulted in moving “non-violent” prisoners from state prisons down to county jails and letting the “non-violent” out of jails. And Propositions 47 and 57 decriminalized theft, and many drug and sex crimes.

As for any real help for the mentally ill and drug addicted homeless, most California counties only offer temporary overnight shelters rather than rehabilitation facilities.

But Sacramento is fortunate..

Saint John’s Program for Real Change in Sacramento serves 800 women and children annually. Saint John’s offers more… Read More

Dem Sen. Richard Pan New Bill to Force News Sites to Use ‘Fact-Checkers’

Democrats Want To Decide What Is Real or Fake News

Sen. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) is the author of the “Online False Information Act,” a new bill that would require anyone who posts any news on the Internet to verify all information through “fact-checkers.” Sen. Pan does not name who these “fact checkers” are, but I’m sure the State of California will create a new agency of state workers to oversee this.

The bill will “require any person who operates a social media, as defined, Internet Web site with a physical presence in California to develop a strategic plan to verify news stories shared… Read More
