Not On My Dime

Let me get this straight, the Democratic controlled State Legislature, both Houses, are going to join the nationwide May 1st immigration rights boycott and not meet or conduct business Monday. That is fine with me, the less time they are in Sacramento the less damage done to the State. However, they also want to be paid their $138 per diem Monday.Outrageous !!! Excuse me, but If you want to skip work Monday do it on your dime not mine. I trust no Republicans will participate in this abuse of tax dollars.… Read More

Anderson Goes After Sex Offenders in AD 77…

No, I’m not just talking about a candidate who says what a terrible thing it is … the liberals letting these sexual predators back onto the streets and into our neighborhoods … and how he’s opposed to those in the legislature and on the bench that allow such things … and how if elected he’s gonna go to Sacramento and fight to change all that … because he’s gonna protect our children and our families. No, I’m not just talking about the candidate who says those things.

Heck, let’s face it, that about sums up the stump speech on the subject for nearly every Republican running for office … and a good number of the Democrats. No, I’m talking about the guy running for office, going door-to-door AND handing out maps of the sexual registrants in our neighborhoods.

Call Joel Anderson’s effort a campaign hook, call it theatrics, call it a media grabber, call it what you want. I don’t care … you have got to love it! Most candidates — in any… Read More

Susan Kennedy should go to the Democrat Convention!

This coming weekend, the California Democratic Party will meet in Sacramento. There will be much drama surrounding whether or not State Treasurer and former State Democratic Party Chairman Phil Angelides will get the official endorsement of the Party he once led.

That said, you look at the Democratic Primary between Angelides and Westly, and any Republican really has to ask the question, which of these candidates will likely fair worse against Governor Schwarzenegger in the November ballot. If you ask Schmidt, Soderland and company, I’m sure that they will happily tell you that when we come into the home stretch, the Governator will clean the clock of either candidate handily. That said, there are a lot of folks that think Steve Westly would be a more challenging opponent for November, both because of his extremely deep pockets and the fact that Angelides is vulnerable to so many more attacks.

So here is my grand idea! For those of you who do not remember, the Governor’s Chief of Staff, unfortunately, is a liberal Democrat by the name of Susan Kennedy. While seeming to be a very nice person, Kennedy has spent her professional career… Read More

Runner GOP Assembly Opponent Supported Tripling of Car Tax

At the last minute Palmdale Mayor James Ledford challenged incumbent Sharon Runner in the 36th Assembly District. He has already mailed twice and looks like he willtry to win. But he is already in trouble.

Ledford as Mayor of Palmdale wrote to Sharon Runner to SUPPORT tripling the car tax! That should go over well in a GOP primary. (of course CRA is supporting Runner—Full Disclosure). See the letter for yourself below.… Read More

Listen Close And You Can Hear A San Diego County Mayor Crashing and Burning

I figure it’s time for some news that does not involve publisher Jon Fleischman’s ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ to Washington D.C with Howard Kaloogian…

In the major suburban cities that circle San Diego City, there are Democrat Mayors in Oceanside, Lemon Grove, and Chula Vista. To be fair, Oceanside’s Mayor is not a Democrat. But he is a lickspittle of the labor unions and lefty extremists like Councilwoman Esther Sanchez so I figure I may as well toss him in. Not to digress on Oceanside, but the Democrat/labor dominated government is all the worse because the GOP has a clear registration advantage there. Unfortunately, as anyone who has had the misfortune to work there for a while knows, Oceanside is the Iraq of San Diego Republican politics. Various GOP factions are more interested in taking the knife to one another than they are in forming a winning coalition that actually governs. Oceanside is a pretty free-wheeling city… a Republican candidate who can unite the factions and organize the business community will find himself a powerhouse in local politics.

More interesting is yesterday’s revelation about Chula… Read More

Today’s Commentary: Whoops – Catch up time – Tax Freedom Day, Eric Roach in DC

OPERATOR ERROR YESTERDAY ON MY PART KEPT MY COMMENTARY FROM APPEARING ON THE SITE.

I have to run to an event for work this morning, but please enjoy yesterday’s commentary…today! Obviously if you read the FR blog yesterday, you know that the trip with Eric Roach to DC was successful, but you all missed out on an important mid-trip update, which is important because my entry belows makes the clear case why Democrats DON’T want Eric Roach to run – which is GOP turnout. Brian Bilbray is ill-equiped, as a GOP nominee, to inspire conservatives to the polls… Anyways, check it all out below, and if you missed out on yesterday’s featured piece on Tax Freedom Day by Doug Wilson, you can toggle to yesterday’s FR in the upper-right hand corner of the main page…

Orange County Update

I’m waaay overdue for some posting here on FR.

Now that the 35th SD special election is over, focus is drifting back to the pocketful of contested elections on the June ballot.

The 67th AD primary is most directly impact by Assemblyman Tom Harman’s victory over Diane Harkey. Now he’s the presumed incumbent Senator for the next eight years, instead of a termed-out lame duck. As such, he’s in a much stronger position to help his wife Dianne succeed him in the Assembly.

Thus far, Mrs. Harman’s campaign has been overshadowed by the slugfest going on between Cypress Councilman Mike McGill and OC Supervisor Jim Silva.

Until a few months ago, the expectation (which I shared) was that Jim Silva would roll into this seat. Neither Harman nor McGill were considered serious candidates. In the last few monhts, however, McGill has revamped his campaign with $120,000 in his own funds and aggressive tactics from new campagin manager Joe Ghiardiello and Cal-YAFers. Their strategy is to positon McGill as… Read More
