The influential Club for Growth has weighed in and endorsed David Harmer in his campaign to unseat liberal Democrat Jerry McNerney in California’s 11th Congressional District (East Bay Area, and Central Valley).
I reached out to longtime FR friend Andy Roth, the Club’s Political Director, who had this to share with FR readers…
In politics, unlike in the stock market, past performance actually is a good indicator of the future. A candidate for federal office usually reveals – in other jobs and campaigns – the kind of representative they will be. Conservative or liberal, insider or outsider, party or principles.
And though he has not held office before, David Harmer has demonstrated throughout his career what he will bring to Congress if he is elected in November. Harmer is running in California’s 11th district against Jerry McNerney – a liberal dedicated to the Obama agenda. Among other things, McNerney supported TARP, ObamaCare, the Stimulus, Cap and Trade, and Cash for Clunkers. He also is a co-sponsor of Card Check and has supported countless earmarks.
But 11th district voters don’t have to choose the lesser of two evils. Harmer is a rock-star of a candidate. An attorney by training, Harmer worked for a legal foundation that fought against eminent domain abuse. He also was a research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, and he wrote a book, published by the libertarian Cato Institute, on school choice. Away from direct political activism, Harmer is a constitutional lawyer whose respect for America’s Founding Fathers and documents is not lip service, but a consistent approach to policymaking.
He understands that limited government leads to unlimited opportunities, and that economic freedom leads to economic growth. He has taken clear positions where most hide behind weasel words. He’ll fight to repeal ObamaCare, has pledged to refuse earmarks, and will stand with other outspoken pro-growth leaders in the House if elected. His consistent pro-growth conservatism is in stark contrast to his opponent, and to the status quo in Washington.
David Harmer is a great candidate, and he’s going to make a great congressman.
