Fox News has some interesting new poll numbers about the state of political affairs here in California. The September 11th poll found Whitman leading Brown by 6 points, and Fiorina just two points behind Boxer. Unsurprisingly, jobs and the economy are the number one priority for those polled, with 46% saying it’s their primary concern this year.
Even more interesting than the election polling numbers were the results of questions asked about office holders that aren’t up for election this year. The Fox News headline says it all: “California Cools to Dems.”
Obama has only a 48% job approval rating despite winning California by a 24-point margin in 2008. In a ray of true hope, 35% say they think Obama’s actions have hurt the economy. And according to Fox News, respondents were evenly divided on whether to repeal ObamaCare. Only 46% believe Obama deserves reelection. In a state as historically progressive and Democratic as California, these numbers reflect a great opportunity for conservatives.
Dianne Feinstein should take note that her job approval rating is at 44% –just two points better than Boxer’s approval rating. If Boxer goes down this year—which is looking very likely—Feinstein could also be in trouble.
Even though the poll is full of overwhelmingly bad news for Dems, Republicans, or at least the top Republican in the state, also get bad marks. Fifty three percent of those polled believed Governor Schwarzenegger’s policies had hurt California’s economy, proving once again that electing RINO’s is bad for the GOP brand. Let’s hope that unlike her predecessor, Meg Whitman will actually fulfill her campaign promises of bringing real accountability to Sacramento and turning around the state’s moribund economy.
