Deligianni: Poizner – The Choice For Values Voters

The following column from the Honorable Alexia Deligianni was sent over from the Poizner for Governor campaign.  Alexia is an elected Board Member of the Orange Unified School Districtand also serves as a Vice President of the California Republican Assembly…

Steve Poizner: The Choice For Values Voters
By The Honorable Alexia Deligianni

California needs a leader with a moral compass, one who isn’t afraid to express his beliefs and who stands by core conservative social values. A leader who knows that these values and beliefs are instrumental to the future of our great state.  I believe this leader is Steve Poizner and I am proud to support his candidacy for governor.

This year’s Republican gubernatorial primary presents a clear choice for social conservatives.  Meg Whitman, Steve’s opponent, has consistently presented liberal social views and has repeatedly said that she does not believe social values should play a role in the race for governor.  Meg, quite simply, is wrong.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that Meg is afraid to talk about social issues—she is not a conservative, nor does she share the beliefs held by values voters across our state.  Let us not forget that Meg wholeheartedly endorsed and campaigned for Barbara Boxer just a few years ago.

With the national health care debate still swirling in Congress, the majority of Americans have rallied to prohibit the public funding of abortion. Steve Poizner stands with the 67 percent of Americans who oppose such funding. Not only does Steve oppose the public funding of abortion, he is the only candidate running for governor who will work to completely outlaw state government funding of abortion.

Meg Whitman, on the other hand, vociferously defends the state funding of abortion. This support demonstrates how out of touch she is with values voters in our state.

In 2007, there were more than 80,000 publicly funded Medi-Cal abortions in California costing taxpayers more than $35 million.  While our state is in the midst of a fiscal meltdown, Meg Whitman believes we should be spending tens of millions of dollars on abortions.  This isn’t just wrong, it’s unconscionable.

Steve ardently believes that our state must do everything it can to drive the number of abortions in our state to zero.  He opposes late-term abortions and supports a parental notification requirement.  As governor, he will also work to streamline adoptions in our state and ensure that widespread educational programs are available to women who are considering abortions.

Values voters should also know that Steve Poizner supports traditional marriage.  Steve believes marriage should be defined as being between one man and one woman. He voted in favor of Proposition 8 in 2008 and as governor will oppose efforts to legalize gay marriage. The voters of California have resoundingly supported traditional marriage on two separate occasions, and Steve feels strongly that the will of the people must be respected in this matter.

Steve’s support of these important conservative social values will help strengthen our families and improve our state. Steve is the only candidate who can beat Jerry Brown in November because Steve is the only candidate who has experience in both business and government. Unlike Jerry Brown, Steve has a proven record of creating jobs in the private sector and a proven record of cutting spending in Sacramento – 15% at the Department of Insurance. Join me in supporting Steve Poizner for Governor, a true conservative who isn’t afraid to stand up for our values.

    Very well written.

Steve imploded with his public call out of Meg over the race a couple of weeks ago. That man will not beat Moonbeam in a GE.

And with apologies to my social conservative allies here on Flash Report… These issues belong at your dinner table and churches not in the Governor’s mansion.

Freedom is freedom economic and otherwise. If your neighbor wants to smoke pot or have a Gay Relationship that’s their business.

Now I agree that Government shouldn’t be paying for Abortions (or any other medical care for that matter). The growth of youth voters in the Republican ranks is of a decidedly libertarian bent.

The sooner the GOP recognizes this the sooner electoral victories will follow.
