*Note, this post has been updated to include a statement from Senator Walters (below).
For those looking for responses to the State of the State Address from particular legislators, I provide links to releases with that information below.
I pulled the quotes from the other Republican women so that I can say we gave attention to all six. :
Senator Mimi Walters, Laguna Niguel
At a time when our state, and our nation, is suffering from a severe recession, it is critical that we implement policies that will encourage business to remain in California.
The economic foundation of our state is comprised solely of our businesses that provide us with the revenue necessary to keep our programs running and our "doors open." Without them, we are lost.
In his State of the State Address, the Governor was right to address the crisis we are having with jobs in California. It is the duty of the Legislature, as well as the Governor and our state agencies, to pass responsible policies and that will allow our businesses to thrive, enabling us to provide the critical services upon which Californians rely.
It is also the duty of state government and the various agencies, departments, and boards to eliminate irresponsible regulations that are choking our businesses, eliminating jobs, and stifling our recovery.
In 2010, if our state government makes the correct decisions and enables California’s businesses to do what they do best, we will pull out of this recession with the strength and vigor of which California is capable.

Assemblywoman Connie Conway, Tulare
Like the Governor, I believe it is essential that the Legislature make job creation a top priority this year. With so many in the Central Valley and desert communities out of work today, lawmakers must put an end to the hostility toward enterprise and work instead to inspire job-creating businesses to come back to California and our region. Focusing on job creation is not only about putting people back to work, but is also about growing our economy and making progress in solving our long-term budget and structural problems.
Assemblywoman Jean Fuller, Bakersfield
I agree with the Governor that we still have serious work to do on California’s budget. The Legislature must focus on the budget, creating jobs and assisting in California’s economic recovery. Only by making job growth a priority will we achieve success in addressing California’s chronic fiscal woes and put our state on the path to recovery. I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues in the Legislature on improving California’s economy and getting people back to work.
Assemblywoman Diane Harkey, Dana Point
I am encouraged that the Governor wants to stimulate job growth and jump-start our economy but his proposals offer little to decrease the stranglehold that regulation has had on that effort, or to reduce our debt burden. Facing a future of $20 billion budget deficits over the next 5 years, it is no longer unthinkable that our state could be forced into federal receivership as was the case with New York City in the 1970s.
Even if difficult budget cuts are made, the potential of federal control over this great state should strike a fearful chord with every Californian. I am ready to work with Republicans and Democrats to implement long-term structural changes for budgeting, debt relief, reserve funds and pension reform to send a clear signal to our creditors that we understand the severity of the issue. This is no longer a Republican or Democratic issue. We cannot hide from the numbers anymore. The time for action is now.”
