With the main page of the site on hiatus until Monday, I thought I would continue to provide links to some of the top stories of the day here on the blog… Enjoy your weekend!
Featured article of the day:
OCReg: GOP struggles over social divide
Brief commentary on the featured article:
I have a couple of comments towards those who continue to beat the mantra that the GOP cannot win in California unless it retreats from conservative positions on so-called "social issues" (abortion, homosexual marriage, etc.)
First – we have the very important "rule of politics" which we have put together based on an inability of an FR readers to disprove it — which is that there is NO SUCH THING as an economic conservative with is liberal on social issues. Whenever there is a debate on fiscal policy in Sacramento, if you look to those who are viewed as "likely to cave in" to the big spending lobby, it’s always the few GOPers who happen to be moderate or liberal on the so-called "social issues."
It is critical to remember that electing Republicans to office is not the end, but a means to an end, which is to enact common sense public policy that protects the freedom and liberty of our citizenry.
Second – it’s funny how those that want the GOP to stay focused on the fiscal issues have been silent as Governor Schwarzenegger has done an about-face and become one of the biggest advocates of higher taxes ever to serve in the top office. We’re still waiting for a press release from these folks, and more importantly, a willingness to stop funding the political activities of a Governor who would even propose $14 billion in new taxes on Californians.
