Joe Mathews, a center-left-leaning moderate who recently left his job as a great writer with the L.A. Times for a gig with the liberal New America Foundation (you remember them – the invented the term “hidden tax” to justify heaping more unhidden taxes on Californians) is blogging over at Fox & Hounds, and today has a mostly hilarious (a partially disconcerting) post up about what he learned from reading the Governor‘s mind this morning. Check it out!
David Dayen, one of the bloggers over at socialism central, Calitics, writes that local Democrats on the Central Coast are working to place a Democrat on the ballot against Republican State Senator Abel Maldonado. Readers will recall that after Maldonado rather infamously bolted from his Republican Senate colleagues and joined with Arnold and the Dems on the state budget, Senate Prez Don Perata showered him with praise, and some felt Perata gave Maldo a “pass” in the form of no Democrat opponent in his re-election. Enter Dennis Morris who is described by Dayen as a “…non-politician, a former legal scholar who retired to grow grapes on his vineyard…”
Apparently if Morris, who has decided to run a write-in candidacy for the Democrat nomination (with the endorsement of at least one county Dem Central Committee thus far – SLO) is able to get what I would imagine would be several thousand Dems to write in his name – then he will be on the official ballot in November… Now will he get any help from Perata or his successor, Darrell Steinberg, in the Fall? Well, first things first…
But wait… Dayen’s favorite movie is – no, not Gone With The Wind or The Lord of the Rings – but “The Ernest oeuerve” – which is at a whole new level of film obscurity if it’s not listed with IMDB, so weigh that against his credibility…
P.S. Besides the price of gas and rice, we might also see a spike in the cost of Oreo Cookies.
