On this quiet Sunday in the midst of the holiday season, we’ll use this space to cover a few "housekeeping" items for the FlashReport:
Christmas Break
As is our annual tradition here at the FlashReport, Flash and the "elves" take a break from gathering up news stories for the holidays. The last time the main page will be updated for the year will be Thursday, December 20. We will restart again on January 2. If past experience is any indicator, we’ll still see a fair amount of activity on the blog through this time!
Snap.com on the way out?
After a steady drumbeat of complaints about the Snap.com pop-ups on our main page, we’re close to shutting that feature down. So if you really enjoy it, and want us to keep using it, now would be a good time for you to drop us a line and let us know that!
Updating the daily e-mail format
Every day, thousands receive the FlashReport daily e-mail update. We’re getting ready to give that an overhaul, and so this would be a great time to offer critiques. Some of the changes we’ve had requested include:
- Putting a link to the news page at the top of the e-mail.
- Making the link a difference color, and perhaps larger.
- Putting the abbreviation for the newspaper next to each headline.
- On request we get a lot, which is a change we will NOT be making, is to have the headlines in the e-mail hyperlink straight to the stories. That doesn’t work because we need you to visit the site, to keep FR’s great advertisers happy!
- Are you on our daily e-mail list? Sign up and you’ll be notified when the main page is updated each morning, and also get a great summary of the day’s news.
Updating Our Resources
Finally, this is the time of year when we go over our extensive resources menus (the horizontal bar above) and check links, add new websites or blogs, and such. If you know of sites we should be adding, please let us know!
Have a great Sunday!
