People in positions of power inevitably attract the ‘crazies’ people who 1) have a lot of time on their hands, 2) passionately believe in something, however misguided their belief is, and 3) take action to show the world how crazy they are.
Well our own Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona is no different from any other high profile elected official. Last week the crazies came out to protest him. It wasn’t clear why they were protesting although the wife of a candidate who is opposing the sheriff was there according to the Orange County Register.
Outside of that handful of crazies, the rest of Orange County is solidly behind the Sheriff. Illustrating my point: Diane Harkey who is running for 35th Senate District brags about her endorsement from the Sheriff in the same column in today’s OC Register. As Harkey’s pollster you can bet I only advise her to promote endorsements who play well with the voters.
Also on the Carona front, the Register points out he has $340,000+ in the bank. I will let the Carona campaign spin the big dollar numbers for themselves but I hear that they are close to selling out the grand ballroom at the St. Regis Hotel at $1500 a seat when the Governor comes to town on Thursday night for the Carona campaign.

Mike Carona is an embarassment to Orange County Adam. We need some accountability from the top law enforcement officer of OC. It’s not a coincidence that Jon and people like yourself are still defending his indefensible conduct while in office. When are you and others in the party going to acknowledge the obvious? Carona has to go. His scheme of selling badges for campaign contributions is a disaster. Now the county is getting sued for $10 million dollars by the men that “Deputy Li” waved his gun a few months ago. It’s time to start thinking more independently and admiting the obvious. Why is that so hard? Lastly and this is addressed to Jon…how come you are not posting all the recent negative stories about Sheriff Carona that have been reported in the local press lately? To continue to be credible Jon, you have to post all these articles IMO. Otherwise it just looks like you are covering up for your boss.

Allan- Your take is just as biased as Jon’s or mine, just less informed. No one is selling anything at the Sheriff’s Department. And a few bad apples are bound to be found in an organization with thousands.
