So it might be a good day for ‘exploring’ the vast depths of the FlashReport website.
First and foremost, I urge you to explore the many websites and blog to which we link. Each of them were selected because they either touch on California politics, or are a personal favorite of mine.

GOVERNOR APPPOINTS DEMOCRAT AS CHIEF SPEECHWRITER
Finally, the Governor made more appointments yesterday. This isn’t ‘news’ as he is always making appointments. But three were worth culling out.
There is a new Chief Speechwriter and Deputy Communications Director — a Democrat (this is becoming less unusual, sigh) — Gary Dehlson. Dehlsohn covered the Governor as a reporter for the Sacramento Bee. The other two appointments I will note are Republicans – Will Fox has been promoted from head of the Advance Team to now being Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. Scott Reid, who has served as Fred Aguiar’s Chief of Staff is now the Assistant Cabinet Secretary, serving as Aguiar’s #2 still…
Here are the blurbs from the Gov’s office on each:
Gary Delsohn, 53, of Sacramento, has been appointed chief speechwriter and deputy communications director for the Office of the Governor. He has been reporter with the Sacramento Bee since 1989, most recently serving as senior writer in the Bee’s Capitol Bureau. In 2001, Delsohn took a leave of absence from the Bee to write The Prosecutors, a behind-the-scenes look at the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office. Previously, Delsohn was a reporter with the Denver Post from 1983 to 1989 and the Denver Rocky Mountain News from 1978 to 1983. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $105,162. Delsohn is a Democrat.
Will Fox, 45, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy chief of staff for operations for the Office of the Governor. He has served as director of advance for the Governor since 2004. Fox was previously the president of Team America, a political consulting firm, from 1989 to 2004. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $123,246. Fox is a Republican.
Scott Reid, 33, of Placerville, has been appointed chief deputy cabinet secretary for the Office of the Governor. He most recently served as deputy secretary for policy and planning at the State and Consumer Services Agency and, prior to that as director of the Office of the Insurance Advisor. Reid was previously chief of staff to Aguiar while he was a San Bernardino County Supervisor and State Assemblyman from the 61st District. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $118,000. Reid is a Republican.
Have a great day!
