Today Governor Schwarzenegger announced that he is appointing San Francisco attorney Timothy Simon to head up the appointments unit of his administration — this is a key position as the Appointments Secretary plays a critical role in the vetting of all the the hundreds of appointees made by a Governor, and clearly his or her input would be considered heavilty by the Governor.
You can read the Governor’s announcement here, which has Simon’s resume. Most recently, Simon served as general counsel and chief compliance officer for Global Crown Capital, LLC where he was responsible for development and implementation of legal and compliance polices for the firm.
On the local GOP side, Simon was elected to the San Francisco County Central Committee in 2004 primary election, and was sworn into office in January of last year. Upon being sworn in, his colleagues elected him to be Vice-Chairman for Political Affairs for the County Committee.
Chairman DeNunzio went on to say, "I’ve had the pleasure to work closely with Michael over the past year. Timothy lead the efforts to put together a platform for our Central Committee, which is now on our website [click here]."
Simon was appointed by DeNunzio as a member of the California Republican Party State Central Committee.
Congratulations to Secretary Simon, and we all wish you good luck. As a starting point for your consideration, I would share with you that at the last State GOP Convention, Richard Costigan, a Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, asked a meeting of the Party’s Executive Committee if anyone in the room was an appointee of the Governor… Let’s just say we have a long way to go. But having a loyal Republican in this position is a great thing — congratulations!
[Disclaimer: I serve as an appointee of Governor Schwarzenegger myself!]
