The "Hypocracy Has A Name" award goes to Fabian Nunez, who has set his attack-flack, Steve Maviglio, on a mission of pummelling the California Nurses Association. Presumably their crime is not being on Fabian’s "team" for his attempts to massively increase the role of government in healthcare (the CNA actually has their own bad plan – the nerve!). Previously, I mentioned that Democrat Xavier Alvarez, a member of the Three Valleys Municipal Water District had been charged with falsely telling people he was a Medal of Honor recipient. See here. After the monumental flop of last year’s “arena deal” in Sacramento – with voters spanking a proposed tax hike to pay for what amounted to a half-billion-dollar subsidy for the owners of the Sacramento Kings – you’d think folks would have learned something. Or not.

Keeping the Sacramento Kings in the area and building a first class entertainment venue are laudable goals – as long as taxpayers don’t get soaked along the way.

The last proposal was simply a bad deal for taxpayers. And everyone involved lost credibility and public support by trying to be too clever instead of putting together a solid proposal that could stand on it’s own merits.

It appears that some California lawmakers have been watching too many Disney movies lately. A recent decision leads us to believe that they view local animals to be as human as the wisecracking, emotional animal characters in Disney movies. As a result, transportation money is being spent on four-legged travelers rather than those on four-wheels.

According to the Los Angeles Times (October 10, 2007), “a proposal for a $455,000 animal path over the 405 Freeway has riled residents….” The overpass is strangely not winning over the locals. “[They] say scarce transportation dollars should not be used to help deer and bobcats get around while humans remain stuck in endless traffic.” Have people forgotten that animals hate getting stuck in traffic, too?
