Obama Voters the Key to Prop 4 Win?

One wouldn’t necessarily think the anticipated/supposed "Obama surge" of 18-30 year-olds would benefit a parental notification measure. But, here’s the explanatory press release from the Yes on 4 folks. Planned Parenthood’s gotta be going nuts, if their poll data is showing the same. Will we see a PP "Obama’s got a lock on California, so you can go ahead and stay home" effort in the next week?

Today’s Commentary: Arnold Appears on Mailer for Andal. Does McCain want to win? Newspapers Lose More Readers

MSM PRINT NEWSPAPER CIRCULATIONS DROP, AGAIN Our friends in the main stream media print newspaper continue to feel the hit as readership continues to decline at a fairly rapid pace. More and more former readers of papers are instead turning to outlets like the internet to find their news. It seems like many papers are in a “death spiral” where the circulation drops, then the layoffs come (see here for the latest), and then the circulation drops more… and so on…

Some stats: LOS ANGELES TIMES — 739,147 — (-5.20%) SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE — 339,430 — (-7.07%) SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE — 269,819 — (-3.00%) THE SACRAMENTO BEE — 253,249 —… Read More

Prop 8 Sign Thieves Arrested in Placer County

If it hasn’t already happened to you, you probably know several people who have had their Yes on Proposition 8 signs stolen right out of their front yard. Although McCain/Palin and other Republican signs have been defaced and stolen, the Yes on Proposition 8 signs are being targeted in particular. In fact, the vandalism and theft of the “tolerant” No on Proposition 8 side has escalated to such a level that now cars and homes are being vandalized. There are so many reports of violence and vandalism that police can’t even keep up. And even with so many politically-motivated crimes taking place, the media have been rather quiet in covering the extent of these attacks.

In my Roseville neighborhood, just as quickly as Yes on Proposition 8 signs are posted, they are defaced or stolen. Thankfully, the local police have been great about responding to the thefts and last night they finally arrested three individuals caught in the act of stealing signs. The thieves’ car contained… Read More

Using Tolerance to Promote Tolerance

No, this isn’t about Gandhi. But you have to admit, the following reader comments posted today to Chris Reed’s America’s Finest Blog entry on Prop8, are about as hilariously "ironical" as you’ll find….

Jenny (excerpted): "I’m a liberal democrat, and support Prop 8. I’ve supported gay rights since I was a teenager, but over the past few years, I’ve had my eyes opened to the cold hard facts that the gay activists are more interested in grinding an axe against the religious, than any kind of equality. Today for example, reading comments to an article online, I read comments by gays waging the no on prop 8 battle online, shrilly excusing the attack against a man who was only handing out lawn signs outside of a church, by a gay man who tried to steal the signs. The comments included that the religious don’t have rights, that they should get over it, and accept the fact that they would be challenged now at every turn and subject to derision.

"Those were the words of aRead More

Meg Whitman Buys TV Time For Dianne Feinstein

Sometimes politics is filled with irony, and the latest commercial from the No on Proposition 5 folks is filled with it. In a rather high-profile move earlier in the week, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman opened up her checkbook and made a big contribution to the No on 5 Campaign – $250,000!

Shortly after she wrote her check, the No on 5 folks went up on television with the commercial below starring United States Senator Dianne Feinstein (I’ve seen it three times myself here in the Los Angeles media market).

The irony, of course, is that Meg Whitman has openly talked about a potential interest in running for Governor in 2010 as a Republican, and Senator Feinstein is often talked about as a potential candidate on the Democrat side of the aisle. As you start the commercial, you can see the required disclaimer at the bottom, indicating the No on 5 Committee’s major donors, including Whitman. Priceless!

On a closing note, I should say that it is getting harder and harder to figure out who actually supports Prop. 5.… Read More

Rep. Jerry Lewis’ Opponent Quotes Me From 2007

In the San Bernardino Sun newspaper, Democrat Congressional nominee Tim Prince has an editorial printed attacking his opponent, incumbent Republican Congressman Jerry Lewis. In that piece, Prince says, "California Republican Party vice chair and publisher of the popular Flashreport.org, Jon Fleischman, calls for Lewis’ ouster and said Lewis "symbolizes the `big spending mentality’ of the House (and) should gracefully retire from Congress ."

I want to make it clear that during this period of time, between the primary and general elections, when Congressman Lewis is the duly elected nominee of the Republican Party, facing off against Prince, I have not said anything publicly critical of Congressman Lewis or his addiction to earmarking.

Prince is actually referring to this column penned in 2007. Or was it this one? Then again, it might have been… Read More
