The May Day Parade San Diego

As readers might remember, my San Diego office is on the fifth floor on the corner of 5th and Broadway, right in the heart of the downtown. As I was writing mail Thursday I heard a racket below and looked out to find a block long parade moving down the street. At first, I couldn’t figure out what it was all about, but then remembered it was May Day.

The parade took some time to move past my window, so I had some time to observe it directly, and what I saw I didn’t like. Dozens of Mexican flags. Communist flags. Chanting in Spanish. A group of marchers from the terrorist organization MECHA, which advocates the violent overthrow of the United States government in the southwest held up signs calling for "Aztlan". Littering the ground after the parade – copies of the Communist Party of America newspaper. Later I watched the tv coverage where various community college "professors" were quoted attacking our nation’s immigration policy as racially motivated.

"Hair Long" posted video of the event on Red County San Diego that is… Read More

Is the Los Angeles Times trying to hatchet the Governor?

On the main page today, I link to this article by Evan Halper of the Los Angeles Times in which is excerpted here:

Administration officials are soliciting advice from business groups and other special interests on how to propose billions of dollars in tax hikes that could help close a budget shortfall the governor now says is as large as $20 billion.

Schwarzenegger’s staff is exploring a range of options, including sales taxes on lawyer and accountant services, on high-end services such as golf lessons and personal-trainer sessions, and on takeout coffee and other prepared foods that are not taxed now.

The administration’s goal, participants in the discussions say, is to gather support for new taxes from a broad spectrum of the business lobby, giving the Legislature’s Republicans political cover to break their pledges never to vote for them.

Several lobbyists and state officials involved in the meetings agreed to talk about them on… Read More

More GOP Candidates Reject Log Cabin Club Endorsement

Sue Horne is locked in a neck and neck primary with Dan Logue in Assembly District 3 — and was caught completely off guard when, unsolicited, she was endorsed by the state’s Gay Republican organization, the Log Cabin Club of California. Similarly, in Assembly District 71, which straddles the Orange/Riverside County boundary, Neil Blais is in a blowout primary with opponent Jeff Miller. Blais, as well, was the subject of an unsolicited "drive by endorsement" by the Log Cabin Republicans. Neither candidate went after the endorsement of the group, and as it turns out, neither candidate wants it.

Below is the text of a letter sent to the Log Cabin Republicans from Sue Horne…

Gay GOP Group Endorsements – What Are Their Criteria?

The California Chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans has made their endorsements in GOP primaries for State Legislature, and they are raising some eyebrows…

First and foremost, straight (if I may use that word in a post about gay Republicans) off of the Log Cabin website is this statement under “Why We Exist”

Log Cabin Republicans work to make the Republican Party more inclusive, particularly on gay and lesbian issues. Equality will be impossible to achieve without Republican votes. Working from inside the Party—educating other Republicans about gay and lesbian issues—is the most effective way to gain new Republican allies for equality. Log Cabin also exists as a voice for GOP values among members of the gay andlesbian community.

Great – we get it. And to the credit of California Log Cabin Director James Vaughn, he and his organization are virtual Energizer Bunnies when it comes to pushing the gay and lesbian agenda within the GOP.

Unions Drop $750K Into Perata’s Recall Attempt of Denham

It is well known statewide that the recall attempt currently taking place against State Senator Jeff Denham is political gamesmanship being driven and promoted by lame-duck outgoing Senate President Pro-Tem Don “The Golden Pig” Perata. Why is he so intent on pushing this recall (besides the big bucks allegedly involved for his girlfriend)? Well, can you count to THREE?

1) Perata has sour grapes because Proposition 93 failed, with help from Jeff Denham, and it means Perata has to retire this year. The naked power-grab to weaken term-limits was rejected by California voters.

2) Perata has the maturity of a four-year-old, and Denham has been too often willing to criticize the thin-skinned liberal Senate President.

3) This year’s state budget. Last year, Denham was very high-profile in his leadership within the Senate Republican Caucus in opposing the bloated budget that was being pushed by Governor Schwarzenegger and legislative Democrats.… Read More

Sanctury for Assemblyman LaMalfa in Woodland

Some nut case is trying to arrest Doug LaMalfa. You can read about it here.

On behalf of the people of Woodland, I offer the Assemblyman sanctuary in our fine city. It is just outside of his district so he will be safe.

It comes with all you can eat BBQ from Ludy’s.… Read More
