Nicholas Romero
NICHOLAS ROMERO is a staffer for California State Assemblyman Michael D. Duvall (R-Yorba Linda). Prior to this, he was the Vice President of Production for Bieber Communications, a direct marketing company that does business all over the country. He has earned his way through the years as a freelance writer, a public affairs representative for members of the rental-housing industry in Orange County, and a staffer for Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine). He has also worked on or volunteered for several political campaigns, from school board to statewide races. In college, Nicholas founded and served as Editor-In-Chief of his university's first conservative student publication, the Gaucho Free Press. For two years, he worked as a scholar intern at the Reagan Ranch, a project of Young America's Foundation, and served as an active student member of the Santa Barbara Republican Assembly. Nicholas is the 2003 recipient of the California College Republicans Chairman's Certificate of Merit for Superior Knowledge. From 2003 to 2004, he served as Santa Barbara County YAF Chairman and Secretary of the California College Republicans, leading sit-ins and counter protests on campus and in the local community. In 2004, Nicholas was one of only 240 college students recognized nationwide for his pro-Israel advocacy by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. That same year, Nicholas won his university a First Place Polly Award from the Collegiate Network for an exposé on its outrageous support of an event promoting "gay men of color in porn" as scholarship. He ended his college days as an Alternate for the 23rd Congressional District in the California Delegation to the 2004 Republican National Convention, one of the youngest of twelve students chosen to represent this state in New York.For over five years, both in high school and college, Nicholas worked summers as a Del Mar beach lifeguard. Growing up a competitive swimmer and water polo player, he has saved well over a hundred people from the city's dangerous ocean cliffs and waters.Aside from his duties as Managing Editor of the FlashReport, Nicholas serves as Communications Director for California Young Americans for Freedom. He is also an appointed member of the California Republican Party. From 2005 to 2006, he served as the Media Coordinator for the Irvine Republican Council. While at college, he wrote a semi-weekly column on contemporary political culture and conservative thought for the Daily Nexus. He is the author of over forty articles, event reviews, and editorials.Nicholas is a 2004 graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in philosophy and is currently pursuing a master's degree in political science at night at California State University, Fullerton.
