We’ve pinched Senate pro Tem Leader Darrell Steinberg for his myopic blindness in dealing with the notorious CAIR [Council of American Islamic Relations]. CAIR an unindicted co-conspirator in a major terrorist trial in Texas, as stated by the US Justice Department and the FBI is now defending the Iranian controlled Mosques, now seized by the FBI and Homeland Security—under Obama, no less.
Carmichael mosque seized by Homeland Security—less than 10 miles from Steinberg’s office.
These seizures are now real close to home. In fact, only a few minutes drive from Steinberg’s ornate Senate office. On September 1, the page asked how could Steinberg sponsor the CAIR event in the Capitol Rotunda celebrating Ramadan. No one objects to Ramadan. But any association with CAIR is foolish. Speaker Bass distanced herself from CAIR as stated here on September 22.
But Steinberg continues to defend his association with CAIR. Have a look at CAIR’s latest statements objecting to the FBI and New York US Attorneys’ investigation of the link between the Iranian government and their agents in the US.
Come on Darrell. Wise up. You are playing with dangerous comrades.

Gee, I thought this kind of Muslim smearing was ancient history, along with Cold War language like “comrades.”
Mr. Steel, YOU should know better. Anyone who has spent any time in the Sacramento community knows that Basim Elkarra of Sacramento CAIR has been a consistent and strong voice against hate in our community. Anytime there’s a hate crime (bombing of synagogues, gay bashing, violence against the Asian community, Sacramento CAIR has been on the front lines speaking out against it.
CAIR’s local chapter has proven again and again by their words and actions that they want to bring together people of different faiths and nationalities.

Sorry Steve, but you are way in the wrong on this. A lot of local members of CAIR in different communities are good people and there is way too much prejudice against people of the Muslim faith.
But having said that, even if you ignore that CAIR is an unidicted coconspirator in a bombing and contributed money to the Holy Land charity which was then sent to Al Quaida (CAIR claims unknowingly) you still have to acknowledge and respect that the FBI is refusing to cooperate with CAIR (after earlier working with them to fight any activities aimed at Muslims) because information about investigations into terrorism have leaked after they received the information and CAIR after the fact refused to cooperate with their investigation into how that happened.
Omar Ahmad a national board member of CAIR has bragged on tape about how he has been able to use contacts made in America to raise money for Hamas and three past national board members of CAIR have been arrested for terrorist activities in this country.
CAIR as an organization argued for several months after 9/11 that there was doubt Osama Bin Laden was really involved and the executive Director of CAIR-Los Angeles has argued that it was every Muslims duty to defend the honor of a man who gave up so much in terms of personal wealth to fight in Allah’s cause.
The national body of CAIR has done things like invited convicted white supremicist William Baker and other notorious anti-semites to speak at their meetings. Beyond that they have attacked peaceful groups that have really tried to foster better relations between Jews and Muslims.
I have no doubt that many good people looking for a way to protect their coreligionists have joined CAIR with the best of intentions, but unfortunately they have too many evil people at the top and they are using these people as patsies and for that reason, as Barbara Boxer herself said, they are a group that should be avoided by everyone.
One other quick point. CAIR representatives were recently caught on tape bragging to business leaders in Saudi Arabia that they could use their contacts to facilitate business projects in return for increased donations to their group (CAIR is primarily sponsored by Arab businesspeaople, many with pro terrorist backgrounds). Even if you were completely on their side, the idea of a supposed nonprofit trying to play those kinds of games with their status should concern anyone and just from an government ethics issue should be enough to cause politicians to stay away from sanctioning them.

Tom, you’re comparing apples and grapefruits. I’m talking about the Sacramento LOCAL chapter of the organization. Surely you dont think every local chapter of an organization can be tied to its DC or overseas offices.

I still disagree. The problem is that people on the national board are using contacts they have made to raise money for bad things and it’s easy to use a prominent and respected person appearing at a local event in just that manner when you approach someone to donate to say a charity which winds up like the holy land foundation as a front for terrorists.
I understand what you are saying about the local chapter though and respect the point. Although I am not Jewish, I know enough of my history to remember how Father Coughlin in the 30’s used to fan anti-semitism by saying that “good Jews” weren’t doing enough to fight the bad Jews in their midsts, thereby blaming every Jewish person for the crimes of someone they happened to share a religious faith with.
The problem is that right now, violent and dangerous people are using CAIR as a front to get to where they want to go and in part because of the atmosphere of prejudice against Muslims, many people are interefering with any investigations that would help to remove these people from the mix, then I think everyone should follow Barbara Boxer’s lead and avoid them like the plague that all too often they are.
