This just came in from Supervisor Bill Horn of San Diego County. One of the scandalous ACORN videos released over the past few days focused on an ACORN office in San Diego County…
The ACORN Mess
Supervisor Bill Horn, San Diego County
The allegations of criminal acts, including slavery, prostitution, and human smuggling in San Diego County shown on news video by independent filmmakers are beyond shocking. They are revolting, and if true, those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. After that, these people should be locked up and allowed to rot.
I am in full support of a State and local law enforcement investigation into the actions of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).
The video clips taken in ACORN offices around the country may be smoking guns that have been fired at the heart of our democracy. However, the ACORN story has gone far beyond politics. Just the thought of minor children smuggled across the border for purposes of prostitution turns my stomach. It shows an egregious disregard for human decency and the rule of law in our County and the nation.
I commend the filmmakers who exposed ACORN workers for allegedly offering advice on how to set up prostitution businesses, cheat the government for housing help, and bring underage girls into the U.S. from Mexico. The story finally reached the point where the so-called mainstream media could no longer ignore what was happening. Even so, you’ll notice that the courageous journalists are constantly referred to by most of the mainstream media as “conservative filmmakers.” I’m not holding my breath for the day when the media uses the term “liberal filmmakers.”
I support Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in his call for the California Attorney General to investigate ACORN and agree with Tony Krvaric, Chairman of the Republican Party of San Diego County who has called for a forensic audit of all voter registration cards in San Diego County solicited or submitted by ACORN in 2008. This is essential because two-thirds of all voter registration cards in the State turned in by ACORN came from San Diego County.
Finally, I renew my demand that the State and the nation have a uniform requirement for photo identification when people register to vote and then cast their ballot at the polls. There is no objection when photo ID is required to rent a movie or cash a check. Why should people resist a photo ID that will ensure the integrity of our elections and protect democracy at the polls?
