If Only The Beatles Ran California

They may have said they wanted a Revolution or thought Moscow girls made them sing and shout, but I wish the Beatles were in charge of California.

Yesterday as I was trying to find a certain XM Radio Channel I found the Beatles singing about the “Taxman”.

Here are the lyrics:

Let me tell you how it will be,
There’s one for you, nineteen for me,
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.

Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don’t take it all,
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat,
If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.

‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t want to pay some more
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.

Now my advice for those who die,
Declare the pennies on your eyes,
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
And you’re working for no-one but me,
Taxman.

I was thinking what a bargain! 5 percent. Sweet! Tax the street but not the car. Deal! In California they get way more than that.

With the Beatles we get marmalade skies, yellow submarines and strawberry fields, but man a 5% tax rate would make me do the Hippy Hippy Shake.

    I’d pay to see that.

Watch out! This Legislature will try to tax Hippy Hippy Shakes also.

actually, Bill, the 5% was what was left after the 95% tax rate on “the rich” which is what the otherwise somewhat leftist chic Beatles were complaining about in the song. In the background at one point, you can hear them sing “Taxman, Mr. Wilson. Taxman, Mr. Heath” who were the Labor Party PM, and Tory Leader at the time, respectively.

my bad, I should have looked more closely. I should have directed my response to Mike.
