Who are these guys?

Jim Lacy has been getting the same mail I have.

These Taxpayer Protection Committee people are all over the place. I got a piece of mail at home yesterday from the California Taxpayer Protection Committee supporting Frank Sieferman, Jr. for Woodland City Council.

This piece of mail follows an automated call for Sieferman as well as another piece of mail to the good people of Woodland telling them all of the great things he is going to do for the taxpayers of my city.

For those of you that don’t know, Frank Sieferman, Jr is a former County Supervisor that I was forced to run against and beat in 2006.

Sieferman was a member of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors when he voted to use eminent domain to seize 17,000 acre Conaway Ranch so that the government could do exactly what the private owner was doing with it.  This seizure was one of the reasons that Prop 98 is on the ballot on Tuesday.

Sieferman supported John Kerry for President, redecorated his office during tough budget times, accepted and supported pay raises while in office, opposed the parental consent measure on the ballot, and supported a gay pride resolution on several occasions.

So tonight I took at a look at the California Taxpayer Protection Committee website.  Guess what?  They list all of their endorsements for office on Tuesday but happen to leave off their choice for Woodland City Council.

They also don’t say anything about Prop 98.

Then when you read "about us" you will see that they are supported by the California Republican Assembly, Senator Tom McClintock, California Republican Party, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, and Assemblyman Ray Haynes.

Really?

I was proud to have the endorsement of Senator McClintock and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association when I ran for Supervisor against Sieferman.  I also am one of the few County Supervisors in California that publicly supports Proposition 98.

So I am surprised to learn that McClintock, Haynes, California Republican Party, California Republican Assembly, and Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association are the only names listed on a website of an organization that supports Frank Sieferman, Jr. for Woodland City Council and opposes Prop 98 on Tuesday.

I expect Sieferman to win on Tuesday.  Please be assured that every vote he casts that rips off the Woodland taxpayers will be listed here and credited to the California Taxpayers Protection Committee and their supporters —– Senator Tom McClintock, Assemblyman Ray Haynes, California Republican Party, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, and California Republican Assembly.

How do you claim to be supported by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and then endorse against the measure that has been their focus for the last 18 months?

How can these people support Frank Sieferman, Jr. for Woodland City Council?  This is not a slate mailer. This is mail and calls dedicated solely to the election of Sieferman.

Who would possibly be willing to serve as the Executive Director of an organization like this?

    Matt,

As a local Republican activist, you should recruit some Republicans to run for Woodland City Council. In the meantime, there is no point in criticizing the California Taxpayer Protection Committee (a nonpartisan organization) for supporting the best Democrat running in a field of Democrats. Yes, there is one Republican running for one of the three open seats and he also has the endorsement of the California Taxpayer Protection Committee. Apparently, it does not serve your purposes to discuss Fred Lopez’s campaign for Woodland City Council.

As for Proposition 98, the California Taxpayer Protection Committee was among the first organizations to endorse it, we have been included in their campaign materials, and our volunteers helped collect signatures to qualify that initiative for the ballot. Our volunteers do not need lectures from paid political consultants about eminent domain and the need for Proposition 98, which we have steadfastly promoted and for which we have never received a dime.

The California Taxpayer Protection Committee is an all-volunteer operation. Our website has not been well-maintained lately because our volunteers have been busy on other things. If you aren’t happy with our website, perhaps you could volunteer some of your own precious time to help out with it. I know you’re a busy guy, but our volunteers are busy people, too. (Speaking for myself, I am also the Chairman of the Placer County Republican Party, the National Committeeman, Parliamentarian, and Rules Committee Chairman for the California Republican Assembly, the National Vice President of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, a Board member for the Republican Victory Fund, etc., etc. Somehow, I still find time to volunteer to help taxpayer-friendly candidates.)

Instead of wasting your time tearing down your friends and allies at the California Taxpayer Protection Committee, perhaps you should get to work finding some conservative Republicans to run for Woodland City Council. If we can’t win in Woodland, we probably can’t win anywhere.

    Best regards,

    Tom Hudson, Executive Director
    California Taxpayer Protection Committee

If you believe this is true considering what you have been told about Sieferman in the last week then you are sorely mistaken.
