[Publisher’s Note: We are pleased to feature this column from conservative Pat Maciariello, who has recently announced his candidacy for Congress in CA-45 (Orange County) – Flash]
I am excited to announce that I am a candidate for Congress in California’s 45th District, running to succeed a principled and respected conservative leader, John Campbell.
The United States is a truly exceptional nation and we carry an important responsibility to lead the world economically, militarily, and morally. But as I look at my two daughters and consider how the prospects of their generation have changed – just in their short lifetimes – I am compelled to do what I can to restore the American Promise.
Like so many other immigrants, my grandparents came to this country because of the promise that our free markets offered to those who worked hard, played by the rules, and were driven to succeed. Their success was no doubt helped by many but it was America that made them believe it was possible. They worked hard in manufacturing plants and department stores while raising three sons, each of whom who found success in their own right, and in turn, created opportunities for their many grandchildren.
The policies of wealth redistribution advocated by President Obama are not working and our high unemployment and sluggish economic growth provide confirmation. His administration is dismantling the pillars of our free markets but it is not enough for us to complain, we must act. We must show Americans what the conservative agenda can do to restore the American Promise.
America’s history has shown how freedom and liberty can empower a people to achieve amazing things. In our short history, we have risen from a renegade colony of the great British Empire to the world’s lone Super Power. Our economic growth, innovation, and the resulting quality of life are the envy of the world and we can reestablish our promise by rolling back the overregulation, increased taxation, and other impediments to our success.
I am running for Congress to be an advocate for economic reforms that will restore the American Promise and show all Americans that conservative, pro-growth economic policies are the right way forward. Anyone who wants to work hard should have the opportunity to determine their destiny and government should not stand in their way.
I don’t have many years of elected office experience as other candidates will have and I am not running to get a political promotion. I won’t have all the other politicians’ endorsements, and I won’t have all the special interest PAC money. I am a businessman and father running for Congress because I care about my family, my state, and my country, and want to do what I can to change our country’s direction.
It is nine months until the 2014 Primary Election. Over those months, I look forward to meeting the thousands people and families that make-up the 45th District and to talk and to listen to what our community wants in their next member of Congress.
I hope to earn your vote and be your voice in Washington and I ask for your support.
Sincerely, Pat Maciariello
