This press release just came out of the Club for Growth in Washington, D.C. The CfG is one of the most important and credible fiscally conservative groups inside The Beltway. What they say and do matters, a lot. If Ose hops into this primary, it should be a fun six months for those of us who cover and follow this stuff…!
Washington – Now that Rep. John Doolitte has announced his retirement there is talk of two new candidates jumping into the race for California’s Fourth Congressional District seat.
The first, former Rep. Doug Ose (1999-2004), has a history of too often voting for increased government spending and increased regulation. Some of these votes include:
• Voted for McCain-Feingold and against protecting political free speech (RC #240, 02/14/02)
• Voted against school choice (RC #135, 05/23/01)
• Voted against the Republican Study Committee budget that would cut wasteful spending(RC #73, 03/23/00) (RC #79, 03/20/03)
• Voted to spend taxpayer money on mohair subsidies (RC #383, 07/11/00)
• Voted for the Medicare Prescription Drug Bill (RC #669, 11/22/03)
In contrast, Rico Oller is a former state senator who has been an outspoken opponent of tax increases and bloated government spending. “If Rico Oller gets into the race and is elected, it is clear that he would fight against wasteful government spending, higher taxes, and excessive regulation,” said Club for Growth Executive Director David Keating. “California Republicans deserve someone who will fight for economic freedom and limited government.”
