CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCILMAN JOHN MCCANN ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR 78TH STATE ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
McCann receives endorsement of incumbent Assemblywoman Shirley Horton
Chula Vista, CA – With the endorsement of incumbent Assemblywoman Shirley Horton, and more than thirty local elected officials, Chula Vista City Councilman John McCann announced today his campaign for the 78th State Assembly District.
A Chula Vista native, John McCann was elected to the Chula Vista City Council in 2002, McCann ran an aggressive door-to-door campaign that won him 56 percent of the vote. During his first term, John built a reputation of being an independent government reformer willing to break ranks with the status-quo by demanding accountability from bureaucrats and politicians. This reputation has endeared him to Chula Vista voters and left him unchallenged in his last re-election.
“As a small businessman and local elected official I believe I have a unique set of skills needed in the State Legislature – cutting waste and protecting tax dollars while providing the most basic of services the people deserve,” said McCann. “I am honored to have the endorsement of Assemblywoman Horton who I have long considered a mentor in my public service career.”
McCann is a small businessman who works in the local technology industry. He is also a part-time teacher at Southwestern College and a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve.
“I believe John McCann will make an outstanding Assemblyman,” stated Assemblywoman Shirley Horton. “He understands the issues and the needs of this community and that is what is most important to me – he has my full support and endorsement.”
The 78th Assembly District is comprised of the communities of Chula Vista, Lemon Grove, San Diego, Bonita, Spring Valley.
