Logan Jenkins: The Dems Make Party in a GOP Stronghold… A week has passed and none but the hack even remembers the ado about the Democrats having a convention in town. Yet, last Monday the Union-Trib’s Logan Jenkins delivered a great piece on the D’s foray into SD and the political make-up of the region:

I still can’t believe it.
The Democrats in full throat, twisting and shouting, weaving and stem-winding, glad-handing and backslapping.
For one wild-and-crazy weekend, San Diego, the lucky city of Nixon and Reagan, turned baby blue in the face.
The first statewide Demo tent meeting ever held in San Diego.
My, oh my. This was like a drag-queen pageant cakewalking into downtown Salt Lake City.

Barnett the New Adam Smith ED… The Adam Smith Institute, in recent years known as Adam Smith of California, has a new executive director in Keith Barnett. For years ASI has been the smaller, lesser known and more conservative step-sister to the Lincoln Club of San Diego.
In its mid-90s heyday with Mike Fredenburg at the reins, ASI had over 400 in attendance for dinner to see the likes of William F. Buckley pop in as the keynote. Last year, alternatively, the club hosted a 50th CD debate, with the eyes of the nation asking whether a Francine Busby could upset North County’s GOP apple cart, and there were nearly more candidates in the room than watchers.
The Adam Smith club desperately needs a breath of life, and perhaps Barnett is the one to do it. Here’s the announcement:
Keith D.W. Barnett
Keith is the Founder and Chairman of Golfers 4 Freedom, a local 501(c)3 recognized by the Department of Defense as a supporter of the military. He has organized events benefiting children of fallen Servicemen and wounded Warriors. In addition he operates a program to provide golf equipment to Soldiers and Marines on the battlefields of Iraq.
Keith is a local businessman working as a sales consultant. He has volunteered his time for various causes and campaigns such as the Sacramento Life Center and the Hunter for Congress campaign. Barnett attended San Diego State University and is a member of the San Diego Lincoln Club and the NRA. He resides in Mt. helix with wife Kristen and their son Dylan Wesley. They are parishioners at St. Martin of Tours in La Mesa.

Behind the Green Door… In case you missed this very important information, the enviros are putting their personal lives where their mouths are, saying that the reduction of fossil fuel usage isn’t enough, we all need to go green in the bedroom as well.
It’s a wonder anyone takes any of these groups seriously.
Greenpeace offers guidelines on sex

If you’re concerned about global warming, but like keeping things hot in the bedroom, Greenpeace has come out with a list of ways you can make love while protecting the planet.
Going green in the bedroom includes:
• Using natural, soy-based lubricants.
• Using S&M paddles that are made from sustainably harvested timber.
• Showering together.
• Turning out the lights.
• Using bamboo bed sheets — they come from a rapidly renewable resource and are said to be “super sexy.”
• Wearing lingerie made with renewable fibers such as hemp (Enamore), bamboo (Butta).
• Not buying vinyl or PVC sex toys that contain phthalates.
I can’t imagine uttering that last word aloud would get one a second glance in a pick-up joint, but to each his own. The AP story goes on to note there’s even an eco-friendly adult Web site dedicated to naked vegetarians, appropriately called Veg Porn.
