Former Assemblyman Tony Strickland’s (Romney Campaign) Post-Debate Thoughts

Tony Strickland is Co-Chairman of the Romney for President Campaign in California…

Tonight at the Reagan Library, Governor Romney clearly showed why he has earned my backing in his bid to become the next President.  No other candidate has the outside perspective we need to restore conservative principles to Washington.  He successfully introduced himself to voters who may not already know him as the only candidate who can bring real change to government.

Voters learned tonight that with Governor Romney’s strong leadership, there is no problem America cannot solve.  He has a clear record of real experience turning around troubled companies and organizations, and he will bring that same proven leadership to our nation’s capitol.

Here are some of the ways Governor Romney set himself apart from the other candidates at the Reagan Library:

  • He clearly discussed the need for real change in our nation’s capitol.  The country wants someone to bring conservative change to Washington and make it work again.  Governor Romney showed voters he has the record, the platform and the proven leadership capabilities to fix Washington and turn it around.
  • We all know the country is tired of the status quo in Washington and those who have been a part of that status quo.  Governor Romney demonstrated why he is the best candidate with the right plan to bring new ideas, new energy and strong leadership on the issues that matter most to Americans.  He believes in the strength of America – a strong economy, strong military and strong families.
  • Governor Romney won on substance, showing an incredible mastery of the issues and that he is ready to lead the nation.  He offered many specific proposals and positions on the issues.  He is the candidate that best represents the Republican Party’s ideals, and he is the candidate who the Democrats fear the most.
  • Governor Romney has a strong record on the issues that matter most to Americans.  He has a superb record on healthcare and education, fought higher taxes, and has advocated what are arguably the strongest policies on national defense, homeland security and foreign policy in this race.

I am proud to support a candidate who will bring proven conservative principles back to our nation’s capitol.  Governor Romney believes in calling upon the strength of the American people, not government, to meet the new generation of challenges confronting our nation.  With Governor Romney at the helm, we will see a stronger, more prosperous future for our country.

    I couldn’t agree more!

I met Governor Romney. Whatever your beliefs, Mitt Romney is the real deal –he has joint law and MBA degrees with Honors from Harvard (so he is a pleasant change just in terms of sheer intelligence), founded and ran what is arguably the most successful private equity firm in the world, got elected as a Republican governor in the most Democratic state in the Union (Massachusetts), has real values that he lives by (been married 36 years with five sons and 10 Grandkids), set an all time record for Republican Presidential fundraising in the first quarter by outdistancing by a wide margin John McCain and Rudy Giuliani (both of whom had huge advantages due to their name recognition) and brought the 2002 Olympic games from a $350 Million deficit to a $100 Million in profit while inspiring the nation with his presence, decisiveness, and commitment.
