Nearly two months after this post that Chris Niemeyer was leaving the Lincoln Club of San Diego, and that a legislative staffer and GOP consultant were in the running for the E.D. job (although I was sworn to secrecy as to the names), the job has finally been filled..
Congrats to T.J. Zane. I know he will do a great job!
Ok, so when I posted two months ago, I also wrote that the selection would likely be the next day. I also said to tell me if I was all wet. Apparently, I was right about the short list, as T.J. was the consultant I couldn’t name, but I need a towel on the timing. What the heck took two months?
There’s a story there, I just know it.
Whatever the case, the Lincoln Club sent out the following announcement:
LCSD Welcomes New Executive Director
The Lincoln Club is proud to announce its new executive director, T.J. Zane. We hope you will take a moment to personally welcome him and begin working together. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, T.J. began his political career as Assistant to the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Haley Barbour (now-Governor of Mississippi), before serving as Executive Director of the College Republican National Committee. Locally, T.J. has managed or consulted on several candidate and ballot measure campaigns since 1998 including Brian Bilbray, Charlene Zettel, TransNet, Jessica’s Law, and the 2005 Proposition A campaign to transfer the Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial to the Federal Government.
"The Lincoln Club welcomes T.J.’s local experience in political and public policy circles. He will be a great asset as our Executive Director as we move forward into 2007," said outgoing Club Chairman Bob Watkins.
Along with recruiting new members, T.J. Zane will work with the Lincoln Club Board and Executive Committee to develop the Club’s political plan for the coming year. The Lincoln Club will play an active role in ensuring Mayor Sanders’ reforms are implemented at City Hall and will work on other policy initiatives aimed at improving the region’s economy and quality of life.
“2007 will be an exciting year for the Lincoln Club,” said incoming Club Chairman Mike Turk. “The Lincoln Club’s leadership in helping to pass reform-minded Propositions B and C is only a precursor for things to come.”
“The Club has never been better positioned to capitalize on its past success than it is now. I look forward to continuing the Club’s growth and working with members to increase the Club’s influence in the region," Zane said. "Specifically, in the areas of education and economic policy. We must also work to ensure the election of a business friendly majority to the San Diego City Council in 2008.”
T.J. and his wife Rozanna and son Gus live in Rancho Penasquitos, where T.J. also serves as President of the Town Council and as a member of the Rancho Family YMCA Board of Management.

Congratulations to T.J., who has paid his dues in many
a tough campaign, notably Brian Bilbray’s defeat
of Chris Kehoe in a nationally-watched 1998 US
House race.
