Yesterday, I alerted FR readers to Attorney General’s Bill Lockyer’s joining a suit against Wal-Mart in Rosemead, because it posed a public health risk. See here.
Now a self proclaimed citizens group is suing Pico Rivera over the Wal-Mart there. (Ironically, this is the Wal-Mart Rosemead citzens go to.)
Why?
Not public Health, but because people like to shop Wal-Mart compared to other businesses in the area and might want to go there instead. Really. See the article here.

I think they’re also concerned about the store going 24-hour without first conducting an eir.
If some Rosemead residents want to shop at Pico Rivera’s Wal-Mart, that’s their prerogative. After all, it’s less than fifteen minutes south of the one planned for Rosemead.
Of course, the one in Pico Rivera is actually located in a commercial retail area, adjacent to a Lowe’s, a Border’s, and dozens of other retail outlets.
The one proposed for Rosemead is adjacent to an elementary school, single family residences, a golf course, and commercial office space. There aren’t any other retail outlets in the area. The city’s general plan had for decades slated the area for office space. But Southern California Edison wouldn’t build there because there’s an earthquake fault running under the site.
Why a site that isn’t safe for an office building can be considered safe for a massive retail development is an answer for people wiser than me.
