FIELD POLL SHOWS GOP CHALLENGE
There is a new Field Poll out showing that early-on, the down ticket races for statewide office favor Democrats. Not surprising in a state where the party of Hillary enjoys a significant margin of plurality. It’s still early, and so we will have to wait and see how things develop. Clearly the biggest challenges lie in the quest for Attorney General where Senator Chuck Poochigian, a fine conservative who is in a battle with Jerry ‘Mayor of the Murder Capitol’ Brown, who enjoys a huge name I.D. advantage as a former Governor — and Claude Parrish faces almost insurmountable odds in a battle with State Attorney General Bill Lockyer for the office of Treasurer. Parish is an odd, political gadfly. So it is not clear how he would even begin to raise political dollars. Democrat Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante continues to be disliked by many Democrats, giving GOPer Steve Poizner a great opportunity to pick up the State Insurance Commissioner’s post.
Clearly a key for down-ticket Republicans is association with the popular GOP Gubernatorial front-runner. Let’s hope that in the coming months, we start to see more of Arnold Schwarzenegger teamed up with State Senator Tom McClintock, and the rest of the ticket. The Governor has endorsed a team of candidates with whom he would like to run state government — and we hope they will all campaign as a team.
GOVERNOR TEAMS WITH DEMOCRATS IN GREAT BRITAIN
Over in Great Britain, there is a very loose correlation between the politics of their largely two-party system and ours — the Labor Party is like our Democrat party, and their Conservative Party is like our Republican Party. British Prime Minister Tony Blair is the top officeholder for the Labor/Democrat Party. Which makes it no wonder that he was more than eager to team up with "Green" Arnold on the global warming issue. This is part of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ongoing emphasis of his left-leaning positions on environmental issues. At some point, though, there is a meeting at the crossroads of environmental extremism and limited government. As we’ve said, though, Schwarzenegger is in an enviable position, with his general election opponent being so liberal that the Governor can shift to the left himself, with seemingly very little real concern about eroding his Republican base.
ROBIN PARSKY (DAUGHTER OF GERRY) APPOINTED JUDGE
With all of the attention garnered with the announcement yesterday that Arnold Schwarzenegger will appoint FR Friend and GOP Superstar Jim Rogan to the Orange County Superior Court bench, the FR also wanted to draw attention to another interesting appointment. Robin Parsky, daughter of Bush California strong-man Gerry Parsky, has been appointed to the bench in San Diego. The younger Parsky has an impressive resume, but we can assume that Dad cleared all of the hurdles on this plum appointment.
SOME GOOD READING
- The Golden Pen Award winning article today is by Andrew Bush at the Claremont Institute, After Compassionate Conservatism, and is a ‘must read’ for those who care about the future of America.
- Dan Weintraub has also penned a great piece detailing the great ‘deal’ that the billionaire Maloof Brothers will get if a 1/2 cent sales tax goes onto the November ballot in Sacramento County to finance a new arena for the Sacramento Kings (well, that would be with 1/2 the tax proceeds – the other half would go to bring an ‘early Christmas’ to all of the spending plans of local politicians and bureaucrats). Anyways, Weintraub talks about how this is a raw deal for taxpayers – and a great deal for the Maloofs.
Check it all out on the main page.
Have a great day!
