Looks like the dukes have come off in the regular primary election in the 50th Congressional District as conservative businessman Bill Hauf turns on the ‘contrast campaign’ — with this instructive mail piece to Republican voters, reminding them that Bilbray does not support 2nd Amendment rights.
You can be sure that the next couple of weeks will see a slew of this 
kind of mail, and conservatives are reminded that there IS someone about whom they can get excited about who is actively campaigning for the two-year seat.
I’m sure this kind of mail will be challenging for Bilbray, who would probably prefer to spend this time campaigning to Democrats about how he is as good on many of their issues as his Democratic opponent, Francine Busby. But instead, Bilbray will have to try and defend his not-so-conservative record to Republicans – good luck. Oh yes, Bilbray would be better in Congressman than Busby — for six months. For the long haul, we need a real conservative like Bill Hauf.

The piece goes on to detail Bilbray’s alliance with then President Bill Clinton for increased gun control, and how this earned Bilbray an "F" from the National Rifle Association – not an easy feat for a Republican.

I wonder which of the myriad of issues on which Bilbray is a total squish that Hauf will highlight next. There is no shortage. (How did we end up in this lame situation? Oh yeah, conservatives split the vote in the special… That happens too often. I sure hope such a moderate nominee doesn’t cost the GOP the seat!)

‘Congressional Quarterly’ reported that in 1999, Rep. Brian Bilbray
voted WITH the Republican majority 72% of the time on key votes,
and AGAINST Bill Clinton 61% of the time.
In June 2000, then-President Bill Clinton travelled to San Diego
to campaign against Bilbray, and help his Demo opponent to raise
campaign funds at a reception.
In 1996 VP Al Gore also campaigned against Rep. Bilbray with an
in-person visit to his district.
Bill Clinton and Al Gore apparently did not see Brian Bilbray as a
‘Clinton Republican’.

If ‘Washington’ is so concerned about helping Bilbray beat Busby in the ‘run-off’, why are they sending McPain here next Wednesday to “help”.Help him what? lose?
Is he not the one who helped bring us the ‘benefits and amnesty for illegal alien’ bill that passed the Senate yesterday?
