- Tom Campbell has put up a new ad worth 30 seconds to watch. He makes the case that you should vote for him because an LA Times survey says that voters support him over Barbara Boxer. This argument is totally not-compelling to me. While people should feel free to vote for Campbell if they like his positions on the issues, I am still suffering from post traumatic stress disorder from having served as Executive Director of the California Republican party in the 2000 election cycle when Campbell was our nominee for U.S. Senate against Dianne Feinstein. Campbell made all of the same arguments then as he is now about why he thinks he has the best chance of winning. Why didn’t he win in 2000? Turns out Campbell, who is a nice guy, is a lousy fundraiser. I wonder how a poll would show him doing against Boxer after a few months of being out-spent twenty to one? I would find it more compelling if Campbell could articulate in a commercial what he is going to do differently in 2010 than he did in 2000…
- Let me make it clear — I like Steve Poizner. He’s personable, he’s smart, and he’s passionate. That said, one of the biggest challenges that he has had on the campaign trail is that when he ran for the State Assembly in 2004, he ran as a liberal Republican (not even as a moderate). Now if you have time to sit with Steve, as I have done, he makes a very compelling case for why he did that, and how his life-experiences since really engaging in politics have caused him to not-so-slowly migrate to the conservative side of things. That said, there is a hard-hitting story by Michael Rothfeld in the Los Angeles Times this afternoon, Document Shows Poizner Reversed Course on Public Services For Illegal Immigrants, is worth a peek. This "migration" on the issues has given plenty of ammo to Meg Whitman to light up Steve on television, radio, and on about fifteen mail pieces. Not that Whitman is Ms. Conservative.
- Websters online defines "Transgender" as: of, relating to, or being a person (as a transsexual or transvestite) who identifies with or expresses a gender identity that differs from the one which corresponds to the person’s sex at birth.
I admit I don’t know anyone who meets this description — at least not of whom I am aware. That having been said, it’s notable that Republican State Senator Roy Ashburn apparently feels (along with Capitol Democrats) that there should be a entire month for these folks to feel proud for themselves. What next? Perhaps Ashburn will feel that all health plans, like they do for San Francisco City Employees, should cover sex-change operations…

Let me make it clear-I like Steve Poizner also. However, my one little vote would not make much of a difference in the Godzilla vs. Rodan battle between eMeg and Steve.
This year, as an Assembly candidate, I had was able to personally meet eMeg, Steve Poizner, Larry Naratelli and Ken Miller, four of the gubernatorial candidates.
This gave me the opportunity to cast my vote for the candidate that I felt most connected with.
While I would feel comfortable and glad to work with any of these four candidates, I voted for Ken Miller.
Having said that, if you have narrowed down your choices between Steve and eMeg, I would urge you to vote for Poizner as the best choice between those two candidates.
Steve’s 10/10/10 plan, while certainly not in itself strong enough to re-ignite our economy separate from what is going on at the national level, Steve’s plan is going in the right direction. I also felt like Steve really cared about California’s future and was passionate enough about it to get out and stump, rubbing elbows with us poor folks without an upturned nose.
