Thanks to AB 1887 California bans state-funded travel to states that pass religious liberty laws like Tennessee’s law that allows counselors to refer potential clients to other counselors who can better help them with their goals.

I took the opportunity to read Tennessee’s resolution on the Senate Floor to my colleagues who support the travel ban, and asked them to keep an open mind and be tolerant of others views, and the 10th Amendment rights of other states to govern themselves as they see fit so we’re not limiting opportunities for our public university students.
This story from the LA Times highlights how these state travel bans are hurting opportunities for students to travel for academic conferences or sports competitions.
Some of the highlights of Tennessee’s resolution that expose the irony of California’s travel ban:
“California’s attempt to influence public policy in our state is akin to Tennessee expressing its disapproval of California’s exorbitant taxes, spiraling budget deficits, runaway social welfare program, and rampant illegal immigration;
Tennessee is pleasantly surprised that California will not be sending its economic development teams to Tennessee to recruit our businesses, but we can still send out teams to recruit their businesses;
Tennessee is puzzled why California thinks it is a good idea to prohibit its state colleges and universities from participating in athletic competition in Tennessee (March Madness comes to Memphis this year via the South Regional) Kansas, Mississippi, and North Carolina;”
