With the support of my family, friends, and numerous community leaders, I am excited to announce my candidacy for the 37th State Senate District seat here in the heart of Orange County.
Congratulations to Sen. Mimi Walters on her election to Congress. She has been a fierce advocate for pension reform, a strong ally to small businesses, and an eloquent conservative voice in the State Legislature. Her experience and insight in Washington will benefit Orange County and the entire country.
Sen. Walter’s election to Congress leaves a vacancy in her 37th State Senate District seat. Under our Constitution, that vacancy will be filled shortly by a special election. Because of term limits, my opportunity to continue serving in the legislature beyond the next election requires that I seek this Senate seat. That is why I today announce my candidacy to succeed Sen. Walters.
I am sincerely grateful to the voters who have sent me to Sacramento for three consecutive terms in the legislature from two separate Assembly Districts encompassing most of the new Senate seat. I turn to them again for their support to continue delivering the conservative, pro-business, limited government message I have championed during my time in State government. I would be honored to continue that work in the California State Senate.
Many of those I’ve worked with in the past several years have already endorsed my candidacy, from colleagues in the Senate and Assembly to current and future members of the Board of Supervisors to elected city and education officials throughout the 37th State Senate District. I thank them for their continued confidence. I am also proud to have numerous grassroots organizations and individuals backing my campaign, both financially and with pledges to walk precincts, post signs, and campaign on my behalf among their friends and neighbors in every city in the district. I will soon roll out a more complete list of endorsements but, in the meantime, am gratified by the district-wide show of support that has already come my way.
