Republican National Committeeman from California, is a well known fixture here at the FlashReport. He’s in Tampa in and is live blogging the Republican National Convention…
An artist designed the build up toward Mitt Romney’s big speech…
It began organically with people who knew him personally. Just like a attorney presenting as evidence in front of the jury…
He called for “fact” witnesses..
His first witness was a Mormon Elder who testified about the thousands of hours that Romney gave in service to people in his church…
A mother tearfully spoke about Mitt’s commitment to her prematurely born child with severe brain damage…
An elderly couple remembered the time that Mitt spent with 14-year-old son, who was dying from a terminal illness. Mitt spent a lot of time with him in the hospital, ultimately helping the boy prepare his last will and testament, and eulogizing him at his funeral…
Then a whole slew of U.S. Olympic athletes came on stage for part of the program devoted to Mitt’s key role in turning around the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, which had been beset with scandal, turning the games into a success…
The show really began when Clint Eastwood strode onto the stage. Eastwood conducted a talk with Obama using the prop of an empty chair. Obama clearly did not like the direction of the conversation, and Eastwood finally had to tell the president that it was really time for him to move on… The crowd loved it, and the TV audience must have been impressed.
Then came U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. He gave an impressive speech and showed he could have been a solid Veep pick. The audience was spellbound and hung on every word.
A son of an immigrant family whose father worked behind a bar so that his son could speak at the podium. Rubio’s family is from Cuba, and he opened his remarks with thoughts about the people still living there, under the iron-grip of a tyrannical government. You will hear no Democrat talk about liberating Cuba.
Senator Rubio’s star power prepared everyone for Mitt’s surprise entrance on the floor through the Utah delegation. Almost out of breath Mitt jumped up to the stage to tell millions his story.
He spoke first of his Mormon faith and his building of Bain Capital, rebuffing Obama’s flagging campaign attacks.
Mitt’s best line was, ‘”You know there’s something wrong with the kind of job he’s done as … when the best feeling you had was the day you voted for him.”
Romney was confident in his delivery — with passion and sincerity. To top it off, Romney gave a real five point plan to turn around the country that was market oriented — specific and achievable.
With Congressman Ryan’s addition to the ticket — and serious ideas to campaign for — Romney has forged winning formula. He has evolved into a more thoughtful center-rightist. Romney offers a clear path out of the worst recession since the Great Depression.
