When I saw that longtime FR friend and candidate for State Assembly Phil Paule was doing a lot of work to help gather signatures to refer the so-called “Dream Act” (which is really quite a nightmare) to the voters, I asked him to give our readers an update, which is below. Find out more about Phil’s Assembly campaign here, or read a recent column he penned for the FR here — Flash
IF GIVEN A CHANCE, VOTERS WILL REJECT THE “DREAM ACT”
By Phil Paule
When a new report by the non-partisan Legislative Analyst’s Office showed that California’s so-called “Dream Act” to give free college tuition to illegal immigrants would cost three times more than initially expected I knew this past weekend took on a larger importance.
When I first heard that Assemblyman Tim Donnelly had filed the referendum to repeal the Dream Act I was thrilled and wanted to help out. I called the Assemblyman up and invited him out to Riverside County to speak with my volunteers about how my campaign could get involved.
My campaign team along with the Temecula Valley Young Republicans have been hard at work for the past several weeks gathering signatures to repeal the AB 131 here in Southwest Riverside County. We have mailed out thousands of petitions and manned the store fronts. On Saturday we invited people to come to our signature location in Menifee to sign. We had great success all around and collected hundreds of signatures.
It is just plain wrong to give one class of people, in this case illegal aliens, reduced fees on college tuition, while others have to make up for the cost difference. I mean what is next; illegal aliens don’t have to pay sales tax like the rest of us? I know I know don’t give them any ideas.
My campaign team and I will continue to join Assemblyman Donnelly in the fight. However time is of the essence. The signatures have to be in by the first week in January. If you live in Riverside County and need some petitions sent to you please email sara@pauleforassembly.com and we will get you some right away. No matter where you are in California, if you want to get involved in this important effort, just go to www.stopab131.com. Thanks again to everyone that made this past Saturday a success.
