*Breaking* Kern County Registrar: Rubio NOT resident of 16th Senate District

In response to the story we broke here this morning, the Kern County Registrar of voters has put out a statement that they were in error, and that Rubio’s home is NOT in the 16th District where he is a nominee.

What happens now…  Should be interesting…

Oh yeah…What happens now…Should be VERY interesting!

It is obvious that Rubio can’t run for State Senate from the 16th District. Oh Well!

This is turning something into a major issue that I don’t think is all that major in fact.

It would be interesting if Jim Lacy were to give his take as an election law specialist, but I don’t think this is the first time this has happened (I remember something similar in another state senate race and I believe it happens a lot in special district elections) and I think Rubio will be allowed to remain on the ballot without any problems. By the way, if Rubio were declared inelgible, I also believe it would be no different than if a candidate died after the primary. Democrats would name a replacement chosen by their county committees. This may hurt Rubio politically, but he will be allowed to make his case to the voters this Novembeer. Jim, am I right?

What happens if he were to “suddenly” move into the jurisdiction?

I too am anxious to hear from our good friend Jim Lacy.

But, while he gathers his thoughts, let me say that it is inconceivable the Courts would bounce Supervisor Rubio off the November ballot because of a clerical mistake made by the County Registrar ten years ago.

I’ve been in Ireland and events have overtaken this situation.
