No defense of LA Unified or the teachers union intended, but what makes everyone, Republican or otherwise, so sure that charters will be better? Many of the state regs that charters will be free of are based on concepts conservatives have fought for, like rigorous standards and English instruction. There is no guarantee whatsoever that sound practices will be implemented in the new charters. The LA Board motion has given away the store and conservatives aren’t really paying attention.
