UDPATE:  I just found out that a few minutes ago, live on the John and Ken radio program, Steve Poizner signed the Americans for Tax Reform No New Taxes pledge!  That is AWESOME!  We wouldn’t expect that Tom Campbell would sign it, since he has and continues to advocate tax increases.  But perhaps Meg Whitman, who has stated she opposes tax increases, will sign the pledge as well!  Here’s a photo of Poizner signing the pledge…

Late this morning Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, a Republican candidate for Governor, unveiled a bold fiscal plan for California that calls for a series of tax cuts to stimulate our economy (boy do we need it!).  Good news for FR readers — instead of me trying to explain Poizner’s plan for him, he has submitted the following short piece for your perusal, with a link to his website to get more details…

Tax Cuts for California

Today, I am rolling out my detailed policy plan on how I will create jobs when I become Governor. My plan includes across-the-board tax cuts for every Californian because tax cuts are the best way to stimulate job growth and revitalize our economy. Specifically, I am proposing the following tax cuts:

• 10% reduction in all personal income tax rates.
• 10% reduction in the state sales tax rate.
• 10% reduction in the corporations tax rate.
• 50% reduction in capital gains tax rates.

During this campaign I will be very specific about my plan to rebuild California’s economy, that’s why I have released my detailed policy proposal on my website. As a former small business owner, I know that when government keeps taxes low, entrepreneurs and small business thrive. Voters across California are sick of sending their money to the out-of-control spenders in Sacramento. My plan will keep money in the pockets of every Californian so they can spend their own money; not send it to Sacramento.

Another part of my plan to create jobs in California is to streamline government and put an end to the red tape and regulations that stunt business growth in our state. As Insurance Commissioner I have been able to cut the budget at the Department of Insurance by almost 15% – making me the only candidate for Governor who has actually cut waste in State Government. I plan to do the same thing across-the-board when I’m elected Governor.

The founding principles of the Republican Party are strong in California. I’ve been a lifelong Republican because I firmly believe in the fundamental values of conservatism – low taxes, personal freedom, and economic growth. The only way to rebuild our state and revitalize our economy is to stick to the conservative principles that make our party great. When I’m elected Governor, I will govern with conservative values until the very last day of my administration and on my first day I plan to begin cutting taxes across-the-board.
