Governor Arnold has made history. Since 2005, he’s been repudiated by almost every political coalition in California. Its a great illustration for all aspiring "GOP moderates" – stay in the middle of the road and EVERYONE runs over you.
Even with yesterday’s thorough beating, it will soon be obvious that California’s Democrat leadership and the Governor will prove to be too stupid to understand that California voters have a limit to what they will put up with from Sacramento. Across the State, we knew from the day the budget deal was inked in February that it was a failure, that it was going to fail, and that higher taxes would drive stake into the heart of the economy. Apparently, those that voted yesterday agreed.
The Republican Party should not now "let a good crisis" go to waste. We need to show up with alternatives – NOW, and the first alternative we need to suggest are tax rate reductions, across the board, on small business and families. There is NO other strategy to jump start this economy than tax relief. Revenues to the State will increase if such a bold move is made, but when I observe Assembly leadership on the Democrat side, all I see is economic illiteracy.
Californians held "Tea Party II", and this time they are serious. Why is there so little concern on the part of voters for the coming summer cash crunch? Because if State government shuts down over the summer, very few taxpayers will even notice. There is so little value coming back from Sacramento from our hard earned taxes that I predict less and less people will actually care that services are being reduced – it simply doesn’t matter in our daily lives.
Released prisoners will find a well armed citizen waiting for them. With legal gun and ammunition sales at record levels since November, people are safer in their homes than ever before. 35 kids in the classroom? Worked for me in 1972! Class size reduction might be the most failed experiment in California history in terms of return on investment. Education spending continues to spiral upward in the face of a declining student population.
It will be a long hot summer. But it is a chance for the new GOP leadership to advance our old principles. If they don’t, I expect a further decline in GOP registration and chances to hold their slim 1/3 status in either chamber in 2010. Break out the California Performance Review and get to work!

Didn’t the GOP sponsor 1A to the tune of $650,000.00? Who is the GOP? Is the GOP for or against principled (meaning timeless, not old) values of God and family? The existing GOP (especially that Villines character) emphatically declared (recorded) they’d fight the new taxes and turned on me like a rabid coyote. Devore appeared to be the only one with limited courage. Even though Devore signed on to support Anthony Adams, I’m going to support his bid against the baby-blood thirsty Barbara Boxer. The California Republican Party was nothing less than treasonous. A thorough vetting process of principled men by a principled party is the solution. Anyone know a God-fearing, family man?
