SB 572 Harvey Milk Day up for vote this morning on Senate Floor

SB 572, this years version of the "Harvey Milk Day" semi-state holiday bill which Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed last year, is on the file for a possible Senate Floor vote, as soon as this morning.  May 22 would be the offical day that "suitable Harvey Milk commemorative exercises" would be urged to be held around the state, including the school system, if the bill were to pass.  Although it wouldn’t take effect in 2009, there will likely be a push to get it out of the Senate by May 22, should it not be taken up on today’s floor vote.

Call the State Senators offices that may be inclined to vote for such a bill [hint: Most Republicans won’t need this call] and let em know what you think about SB 572 and yet another "commemorative day" that Sean Penn and Co. would like.  Especially since we consolidate heroic Americans into such holidays as "Presidents Day"   Light up those Capitol switchboards this morning!

One Response to “SB 572 Harvey Milk Day up for vote this morning on Senate Floor”

What are you so afraid of?

Are you afraid that homosexuals are “forcing” their lifestyle upon us?

Just a little reminder, Harvey Milk was a California elected official. He stood up for the rights of minorities, and was murdered for doing so.

    How is that not heroic?
I can only imagine what you think of Cesar Chavez, or Martin Luther King Jr.

    Just out of curiosity:
How do you feel about Christmas?
That’s a “religiously sanctioned” State Government holiday. Not only does it force non-Christians to participate, but it also does not—as you say—”consolidate heroic Americans.” Last time I checked, Jesus was not American. He was Middle Eastern.

    What about Thanksgiving?
Technically, Thanksgiving doesn’t “consolidate” ANY heroic Americans. Sure, we celebrate the settlers of Plymouth Colony and their thanks for harvest. However, they were neither the first American settlers… nor were they even American. They were a mixture of English and Dutch, who were settling a colony FOR the London Virginia Company… not for the progress of America.

If you are going to urge California residents to denounce “holidays”, based on your own ignorant rhetoric… then you should denounce ALL official State Holidays that fit into your logic.

Don’t pick and choose based on your own bias or beliefs.
