We have confirmed that after a lengthy caucus meeting, there is a new Senate Republican Leader — Dennis Hollingsworth!
This decision was made in the midst of tense negotiations over a state budget deal.
While we don’t go into the internal politics of caucuses, it is fair to say that it was unusual that the former leader, Dave Cogdill, was supporting a budget plan that was not supported by a majority of his colleagues.
Congratulations Senate Leader Hollingsworth!!

I am not sure to congratulate Senator Hollingsworth or pray for him – perhaps both. The budget process will take nerves of steel and the fortitude to see it through.

Senator, we are entrusting the future of our State to you. God be with you. Thank you for stepping up when leadership called for it.

Now it is time for the Assembly Republicans to show the same kind of brass!

And if today’s Sacramento Bee story is correct, the Caucus also named
Tony STRICKLAND as the new ELECTIONS Chair!
If so, that promotion bodes well for GOP state senate chances in 2010 !

Thank you for taking the lead in our fight against higher taxes. I hope all the republicans are hearing the message loud and clear NO MORE TAXES!

Dennis is one of the smartest and most steadfast gentlemen in this body. He is one of the few who truly understands Prop 98, inside and out. Here’s to our rock for their hard place.

Dennis, your dad must be proud. Fight on for spending limits and against taxes. If the state devolves into chaos it is better for the out of power. Chaos helps the weaker contestant. Now, if we could just get a Republican governor.
