Jim Sills just pointed out to me the recent Rasmussen poll asking Californians how they would vote today on Proposition 13, the Howard Jarvis property tax roll-back of 1978. The answer was 65% yes, only 26% no, and 9% unsure.
Proposition 13 has always been popular, but the stunning new news, unearthed in the cross-tabs by researcher extraordinaire Sills, is that young voters under 30 backed Prop. 13 by a 3 to 1 ratio after it was explained to them, and that African-Americans sided with Prop. 13 by a 4-1 margin! Middle-class, women, and lower middle-class voters all support Proposition 13 by big margins.
I am wondering who makes up that 26% against Prop. 13? I’m thinking it must be very rich people who don’t care about taxes, Hollywood and San Francisco liberals, most entertainers, and a smattering of various freaks and communists around the state. However, Sills couldn’t quite confirm that any of my assumptions were statistically valid.

Lets not be a boy scout! There are far more people against Prop 13 if it provides the elixir to further their gov. worker, teacher, nurse, firemen, police, prison guard, politicans’ salaries or careers. There is a commission of commissars studying how to extract more taxes from Californians as you sleep tonite…you better sleep with one eye open…they are going after Prop 13 the only plum left on the wealth tree in California. Sweet dreams!

“They” have been out to get Proposition 13 for some 30 years now. And like so
many ice hockey goalies, we conservatives have blocked their slap shots again
and again. Commission, sh-mission.
Jim Lacy, who was Howard Jarvis’ strong right arm during the Prop. 13 battle
in 1978, still carries some goalie gear in his briefcase, and has made many
a “Glove Save, and a Beauty” over the years.
