Sunday San Diego… Fletcher’s Shorts, DeMaio Rejects Perks, Anderson’s New COS, and more

Fletcher’s "Biker" Shorts Land him on “Five Newcomers to Watch” List… Congrats to the new 75th District Assemblyman for the hi-lite in the SacBee:

It takes a certain something to appear in your first political TV ad in skin-tight biker shorts … But that is exactly what Nathan Fletcher did. An avid triathlete and decorated former Marine who served in Iraq and Africa, Fletcher has a sterling résumé for a young GOP officeholder … He can also bend the ear of his wife – Mindy Tucker Fletcher, a former deputy chief of staff to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger – any time he’s looking for political advice. Mindy Fletcher also served on President Bush’s two presidential campaigns.

The Bee may not know the subtle difference between “biker” and “bike” shorts.  That would be a funny sight, the devil dog going into a biker bar in his bike shorts.

Here’s the rest of the Bee’s newcomer picks, including those who did TV ads in more traditional attire.

DeMaio Rejects Council Bennies… As a majority of the lame duck outgoing San Diego city councilmembers continued last week to find ways to shirk the hard budget decisions off to the four newbies, it’s refreshing to hear Councilman-elect Carl DeMaio speak the truth, while also rejecting the trappings of the office.  Read the DeMaio press release at Red County San Diego.

Speaking of refreshing, Carl also takes on the "Budget Fairy" in SD City Beat:

The Budget Fairy is your enabler … (it) tells you that nothing is wrong, that you can keep drinking but you’re not drinking excessively, that anyone who says that you’re having a problem isn’t your true friend or family member … The Budget Fairy is the ultimate enabler of the addiction that the city seems to be in. I mean, you don’t cut services and not deal with some of the other cost drivers because that says, "We’re going to charge you more and give you less." … So, the Budget Fairy says let’s not pay the mortgage this month, but let’s take the kids on vacation. How irresponsible is that?  You want hopeful?  It’s when we actually balance the budget and then we find we have a surplus. That’s hope!

Read all of John R. Lamb’s CityBeat piece on the Budget Fairy here.

Anderson Nabs Villines’ Staffer as COS… Assemblyman Joel Anderson has announced Julie Griffiths as his chief of staff, after undoubtedly ganing the blessing of Assembly GOP leader Mike Villines.  Griffiths had been Villines’ district director.  “I am thrilled that Ms. Griffiths has agreed to lead my team,” said Anderson. “She has extraordinary experience in serving constituents … and has the magic political touch as shown by her excellent record in electing Republicans to office.”

Planned Parenthood Stocking Stuffers… Looking for a special holiday gift for that special person in your life with an unwanted pregnancy?  How about saving them some money on that needed abortion?  That’s right, now you can get them the gift certificate that will be cherished for a lifetime … well, at least their lifetime.  It will go well popping right out of the stocking hung by the chimney with care, right over the nativity scene by the fireplace.

Apparently, gone are the days when even the most divisive issue could at least cause reasonable people to agree on a shared goal … less instances of abortion, not more.  Thanks to Jennifer Kerns at K Street Communications for commenting on the formerly unthinkable holiday gift.

I hate to leave you with that one, but I no longer have the stomach to type.

Oh, have a nice week.
