I admit being a little annoyed at the unexpected ring of my doorbell a few minutes ago. My baby is napping and Oregon v. Purdue are in 2OT. I jumped off the couch so that a second ring of the doorbell wouldn't wake Baby Matthew.
It turns out that it was two volunteers from the Yes on 8: Protect Marriage campaign. They are part of a pretty large group of volunteers that are dedicating Saturdays and Sunday from now until election day to restore and protect marriage.
I returned to the couch in time to watch Oregon clitch the game.

There is an ongoing rivalry in the Senate Repubican caucus. Senator Dick Ackerman is a hapless Cal Bears fan and I’m hopeless Oregon Ducks alumni.
But today we went 3-0 (and Cal lost)
Here’s the email I sent my caucus today (after Dick sent his saying we should cut Cal’s budget):
“If California wants a real football team – I’m happy to try and negotiate annexing Oregon.
Oregon Ducks 32
Purdue Boilermakers 26
Double-overtime win – with both Oregon’s QBs injured”
Quack – Go Ducks!

Yes. For the first time EVER, I had someone come to my door and ask for my vote.
There is a tremendous lack of retail politics in Southern California and a lot of votes are left on the table.

Hey Jim:
We better annex Oregon before Mexico does…
