“I Am Woman Hear Me Roar”

I think I may have just witnessed the most defining moment in the history of the women’s liberation movement, and it happened at the RNC Convention! As long as I live, I know I will never forget this night.

Sarah Palin made me so proud. She’s a mom, a wife, a sister, a leader, a friend, and a steadfast advocate for others compelled by a strong moral compass. She was the embodiment of everything a woman can be…a strong political leader, a fearless champion of truth, a tender mother rocking her baby, and a loving wife who adores her husband. Her effortless demonstration of all these qualities tonight brought tears to my eyes as I watched her emerge into new purpose. And she did so with eyes wide open, clearly cognizant of the intense ire that she would bear in order to fulfill that purpose. That’s bravery and courage.

I remember when I was just a little girl in Girl Scouts, we learned the words to "I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar," at a Girl Scout sleepover one night. How could I forget the words…

"I am woman, hear me roar in numbers too big to ignore, and I know too much to go back and pretend…I have heard it all before, and I’ve been down there on the floor. No one’s ever gonna keep me down again. Oh yes, I am wise, but it’s wisdom born of pain. Oh yes, I’ve paid the price, but look how much I’ve gained, ’cause if I have to…I can do anything. I am strong. I am invincible. I am woman."

Thirty years after learning that song while cross-legged on my Girl Scout sit-upon…I know exactly what the song means and what it looks like, because I just saw Sarah Palin!

God bless Sarah Palin for her strength and commitment, and bless her family as they support this wonderful woman. I would also like to say ‘thank you’ to Senator McCain’s mother…she taught her son excellent manners…he doesn’t just open the door for a woman…he has opened the door for all women!

Jill…she is truly an amazing woman…I thought the long standing ovation she got when she entered the stage Wednesday night really made a large point to those who were and still are slinging mud at her and it showed her that we support her 100%. I still get goosebumps just thinking about it. She will make all of us proud as women. I think the Senator made an excellent choice and the energy level has increased ten fold since his announcement. She is truly the embodiment of that song.
