Hollingsworth Alone in Weighing in On Heller Decision… Senator Hollingsworth appears to be the only San Diego area legislator to have issued a statement on last week’s Supreme Court decision. Sure, some might say it’s a Federal issue, but the most significant Court statement on the 2nd Amendment in several decades has pretty significant ramifications. I do want to know what my local reps have to say on the matter.
When I say Dennis appears to be the only one, well … that is to say he’s the only one that sent me a release on the matter. I’ve noted it before — and I’ll repeat it — if you have something to say, TELL US. You legislators and staffers that still haven’t added a few bloggers to your media distribution list, let me welcome you to the 1990s. I’m sure you’re still working your campaigns from 3×5 cards as well. Again, you may email me here. Oh … and thanks to the several SD leg. offices and campaigns that do keep me informed.
I do digress. Here’s what Hollingsworth had to say:
In today’s Heller decision, the Supreme Court sided not only with the Constitution and the 2nd Amendment, but with the American public. The District of Columbia’s handgun ban simply made life in the District more dangerous by preventing law abiding citizens from defending themselves against criminals … Thankfully, the Court found the right to defend oneself with firearms an individual right on par with all the other freedoms we so easily recognize as enumerated in the Bill of Rights. This decision breathes new life into a fundamental freedom liberals wrongly thought was extinct.
Sarah’s Law on YouTube… As Doug LaMalfa noted yesterday, Sarah’s Law will be Prop 4 on the November ballot. Thanks to Ellen Malin for sending me the latest related youtube video:

VoiceofSanDiego.org Focuses on George Gorton… Perhaps the most interesting political consultant to come out of San Diego — at least career-wise — was the focus of attention at Voice of SD last week. The detailed pieces on the Pete Wilson campaign architect are fascinating reads. Kudos to Voice writers Kelly Bennett and Andrew Donohue for some great work:

Battling Oligarchs and Parkinson’s: The Great Resurrections of George Gorton
Taxes, High Gas Prices, Taxes, Declining Housing Market, Taxes, Recession, and Taxes… Did I forget to mention taxes? In case you missed it, just a sampling from the last few days of SD area taxes being considered in the midst of a recession:
Quality of Life Tax and SB 1685
Regional Fire Authority Parcel Tax
Grossmont Union – Major Decision on Bond #2
By the way, a reader emailed to mention that the El Cajon tax discussion of a couple of weeks ago was held, ironically, at the Ronald Reagan Community Center.
It’s been a long day, I’m tired, and I feel taxed. Going to bed. Have a great week.
