Duncan D. Hunter Far Outpaces Opponents in Fundraising
(La Mesa, CA) — The Duncan D. Hunter for Congress campaign raised $278,816 during the latest period, out-raising their nearest Primary opponent by over 3 to 1 margin, according to campaign reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission.
"We are very pleased with the strong support we have received from donors, volunteers and voters," said Hunter, who returned late last year from his third tour of duty with the Marines since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
In the period from January 1 to March 31, 2008, Hunter raised $278,816; bringing his total for the campaign to $503,131. His nearest opponent raised only $79,268 during the same period and a third contender raised $28,243.
"Having our candidate back from duty in Afghanistan definitely helps," said Hunter campaign consultant Dave Gilliard. "Financial support is indicative of political support, and perhaps even more significant than the total amount raised is the fact that 78% of the total comes from over 2120 individuals who have donated to help elect Duncan D. Hunter."
