it almost seems that there needs to be a way to weigh polling data from 30 days out to capture the likely absentee spread, which is where most of the discrepancy came from this time.

One might also want to consider the backlash of those nasty neocon radio hosts as well.
Having the extremists of this party oppose you might be an advantage in the election since the public doesn’t support that type of mentality. 2/3 of Americans don’t support Rush & Ann Coulter, and their remarks backfired across the country only days away from the election.
