“Encouraging” Show Of Support For Thompson In California

The FlashReport has learned that within the next day or so there will be an announcement of state legislative support for a still-possible Fred Thompson candidacy for the presidency of the United States.  On the final day of session this past week, Republican legislators were circulating a letter of "encouragement" for Thompson to join the race for the White House.  All but one of these aren’t endorsements — yet — but the FR presumes they would become endorsements when/if Thompson makes an official announcement (the exception is Assemblyman Chuck DeVore who was the first to figuratively endorse the former U.S. Senator from Tennessee publicly last Thursday).

The list of those legislative Republicans "encouraging" Thompson are:

Senator Sam Aanestad
Senator and FR Capitol Correspondent Jim Battin
Senate Republican Caucus Chairman George Runner

Assemblyman John Benoit
Assemblyman Chuck DeVore
Assemblyman Bill Emmerson
Assemblyman Martin Garrick
Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries
Assemblyman Rick Keene

According to FR’s casual tally of state legislative support, Thompson now registers the most, followed closely by Romney (Giuliani and McCain are tied for third).  Credit for the letter’s circulation and Thompson’s gathering support goes to Senator Runner (pictured above) and Assemblyman Garrick (pictured right)Developing…

I need to know more about Fred Thompson. From what I have heard, so far, I would support Fred Thompson for President over any other contender for President. That would be with my cash, as well as my time and vote!

I have observed some Republican Statesmanship in this immigration debate. It gives me some hope. But by and large, I have walked away from the RNC. I like the economy under GWB. It has performed beautifully. Don’t want to go back to Demo. posturing and confiscatory fiscal policy.

Arnold S. has been a real disappointment. Screen image doesn’t translate into conservative policy.
