In yesterday’s report on the Los Angeles County School elections, it was revealed in the Los Angeles Times that a “moderate Republican” group had spent $170,000 to help elect Villaraigosa backed Democrat Tamar Galatzan over the Teacher union backed Democrat Jon Lauritzen. See article here. The group was the New Majority PAC (TNM).
Initial results had Galatzen winning by about 6000 votes.
While the New Majority was spending that kind of cash to help a Democrat, Villaraigosa backed REPUBLICAN candidate Dick Vladovic was winning by a margin of about 700 votes.
Roy Burns another GOP candidate for Los Angeles Community College District was winning by a mere 88 votes.
Yet, New Majority gave them a BIG FAT ZERO!
Here is a portion of the TNM website listing goals for the coming year.
“New Majority’s continued priorities include increasing Republican voter registration in targeted communities, identifying quality Republican candidates with an emphasis on bringing diversity into the Republican Party and supporting legislative Republican leadership in targeted races.”
Hey, where does a Villaraigosa Democrat fit? Is that Diversity? Does it matter if the Mayor or UTLA control LAUSD? They both can’t fix a system that needs to be broken up!
About a year ago I was invited to a New Majority planning meeting. Read about it here. They talked about avoid ideological battles and focusing on building a bench, registering more Republicans etc…
I was recently in a meeting where TNM committed 50K to GOP voter registration. Now they have spent three times as much to elect a young dynamic future Democratic officeholder and help out a possible gubernatorial candidate, Antonio Villaraigosa —all the time —ignoring GOP candidates locked in close races.
What gives? Not the TNM to LA GOP candidates.
